Scramble for the Kinniku Throne (50): Seven Rays of Death!
-> RTS Page for Kinnikuman 323
The second match of the Throne tournament semi-finals are underway...but just when the rules have seemed to be set up, Super Phoenix has thrown some new twists in! Will these be to Team Soldier's disadvantage?
Chapter 323: Scramble for the Kinniku Throne (50): Seven Rays of Death!
109.
Soldier: Wh…what is this ring---!?
Suguru: It’s not just a ring on top: rings have appeared from every side as well---!!
110.
Announcer: What is the meaning of this floating, three-faced ring that has suddenly appeared in the sky of Sekigahara----!?
Brocken: The battle of our Team Soldier and Team Phoenix should have been settled as a 6-person tag match in one ring!!
Buffalo: Dividing into three rings with exactly two fellow competition opponents like this isn’t a tag match; it’s become a single-match---!!
Phoenix: Kukuku…well then: everyone on Team Soldier, this three-sided heavy-gravity ring will be suitable.
Phoenix: I mentioned earlier that there is a special floatation apparatus installed within this cube ring, but…
111.
Phoenix: In truth, this floatation apparatus also has a function for creating heavy-gravity; and it’s thanks to this heavy-gravity that was created from this apparatus that all of you who are on the rings on the other sides are able to stand without falling off.
Soldier: So then, Phoenix, you planned to have us relieved with the 6-person tag rule and then nail us to this heavy-gravity cubical ring from the start, intercepting all team play!!
Phoenix: Soldier, a battle isn’t just all about power, it’s here! If you don’t use what’s here!! Understand that’s why we’re called Team Phoenix!!
(TN: That line really makes no sense if you don’t read the kanji: since “Team Phoenix” always uses the kanji for “Intelligence”, as in the “God of Intelligence”, it is intended that you could read “Team Phoenix” as “Team Intelligence” as well. But be forewarned: though it uses the kanji for “Intelligence”, the name that Super Phoenix uses is “Team Phoenix”…in truth this is used for all the Fated Prince’s team but it really wasn’t an issue until this particular section)
Soldier: Yo…you’re~~~!!
Soldier: Inexcusable----!!
112.
Soldier: Sorya!!
Announcer: The showdown ring of Phoenix and Soldier…Daringly will be called Ring A. In Ring A, the angry-heart Soldier is holding Phoenix in an Airplane Spin!!
Announcer: And now he’s thrown away Phoenix’s body---!!
Soldier: We’re 350m above ground: dropping from this height, even the shining Phoenix can’t be saved…
(TN: It’s sort of hard to figure what Soldier is saying here: he refers to Phoenix as “sashimo no Phoenix”, with “sashimo” seeming to be “shining” but could be “knocked down” or “stabbed”)
113.
Soldier: What---!?
Announcer: Gee~~~somehow Phoenix’s body has stopped in the middle of his fall---!!
Phoenix: Ha—haha, no matter how many times I fall to my death, the heavy-gravity fired from within this cube ring will attract my body, protecting it----!!
Soldier: Right: the function of heavy-gravity has that sort of advantage as well!
Phoenix: That’s unfortunate, Soldier!!
Announcer: Phoenix is using the recoil of the rope of Ring C on the left side, returning to Ring A where Soldier is waiting---!!
114.
Announcer: …And aiming for the back of Soldier’s head, hits him with an Enzuigiri---!!
Soldier: Guwa!!
Announcer: And now without delay with a swift Chicken Arm Scissor, Phoenix has made Soldier fall!!
115.
Phoenix: As I’m certain, our battle method is a give-up match.
Phoenix: In short, if either team can snatch the bandana off the left arm of the captain…
Phoenix: That will decide the match.
Announcer: Will Team Soldier hand over the privilege to advance to the finals so easily like this---!!
Phoenix: Uwa!!
Announcer: A thick impact that has suddenly attacked the entire ring has destroyed Phoenix’s Chicken Arm Scissor---!!
Phoenix: Hey, I would have taken Soldier’s bandana with a bit more. What was behind that impact---!?
116.
Buffalo: Ga—hahaha: the criminal behind the impact was me---!!
Announcer: Somehow, Bufafloman in Ring C is striking the canvas with his own body, causing an impact to the entire ring---!!
Buffalo: No matter how much you divide us into three rings and intercept all team play, the team play of Team Soldier is indestructible!!
117.
Buffalo: Captain Soldier, I’m going to save you now!!
Buffalo: Gua!!
Mammoth: This blockhead was severely hindering us!
Announcer: Somehow the large build of Buffaloman, who prides his 10 Million Power, has been lifted up by just the power of Mammothman’s elephant nose----!!
Announcer: And with that, Buffaloman’s body is…
Mammoth: Powerful Nose Back Breaker!!
Buffalo: No…nothing can be done here…I…can’t even move. Brocken, you’re entrusted in rescuing Soldier~~…
118.
Brocken: Right, leave it to me, Buffaloman!!
Announcer: Well, taking Buffaloman’s baton pass, now Brocken Jr. of Ring B is going to rescue Soldier---!!
Prism: Can you do that?
Brocken: Prisman!!
Brocken: Hey, you’re in the way---!!
Prism: Kyokyokyo, my…body is ticklish.
Announcer: Brocken’s punch isn’t effective on Prisman!!
Brocken: Uwa!!
Brocken: My fists, my fists are~~~!!
119.
Prism: My entire body is made of sharp glass: striking it recklessly will break your fist to pieces.
Brocken: Damn!
Prism: Sunlight Absorption---!! Kyokyokyo: give up on rescuing Soldier and surrender to me--!!
Suguru: Ooh…the light of the sun is becoming a thick sash and is getting exposed to Prisman’s back.
(TN: Suguru uses “obi” as opposed to “sash”, which is in reference to the sash used to tie up a kimono)
Prism: Rainbow Shower---!!
120.
Announcer: The sunlight absorbed into Prisman’s body has become a seven-color rainbow and being fired towards Brocken Jr!!
Brocken: What a pretty rainbow…
Robin: That rainbow is dangerous, Brocken!!
Brocken: Ha!!
121.
Brocken: Aah!!
Brocken: The steel post is bending like its candy…
Prism: The prism of my body is different from an ordinary prism, which just bends the light of the sun and releases a seven-colored light…my prism extracts from the sunlight the Seven Capillaria Rays, which are called harmful to the body of Choujin who over-bathe in it and changes them into heat rays, which I fire.
(TN: The name of the rays that Prisman refers to includes the word “capillaria”, which is actually in reference to a type of parasitic roundworm)
Brocken: The Seven Capillaria Rays!!
Robin: Th…those things still exist~~~!!
Suguru: What’s wrong, Robin!?
Ramen: There are many hundreds of billions of Choujin scattered throughout the universe, but long ago, around some five billion years ago, nearly all the Choujin from this Solar System were annihilated…
122.
Ramen: It was said to be due to a large quantity of a completely harmful ray in a rainbow called the Seven Capillaria Rays from the sun, due to a solar anomaly, which poured down throughout all the planets in the Solar System. Since then, the Seven Capillaria Rays were said to become the ultimate natural enemy of Choujin…
Suguru: So…so then, Brocken will die by being bathed in the light being fired from that Prisman!!
Prism: Rainbow Shower!!
Brocken: Uwa!!
Prism: Rainbow Shower!!
Brocken: Guwa!!
Prism: Kyokyokyo: it’s best that you just run. Soldier will have the bandana on his left arm taken in Ring A!!
Brocken: That’s…right!
123.
Announcer: In Ring A, Phoenix has taken Soldier’s left arm in an Arm Breaker.
Brocken: …………
Prism: So, to get to Ring A so you can rescue Soldier, you must pass through where I’m standing.
Brocken: I really do want to somehow get through he place where Prisman is standing but…that will get me showered by his Rainbow Shower before my eyes.
Brocken: Don’t I have some good thing…a method where I can pass by Prisman without being hit by his Rainbow Shower and move to Ring A…
Brocken: Prisman’s entire body is glass-sided…
Brocken: That’s…it!!
124.
Brocken: A way to move to Ring A without being hit by the Rainbow Shower!!
Suguru: Are you planning on going to your death, Brocken!!
Brocken: Red Rain of Berlin---!!
Announcer: Is Brocken Jr. throwing his Red Rain of Berlin handed to him by his father into Prisman’s body? Wouldn’t the result only just whittle down Prisman’s body--!!
Prism: Kyokyokyo: his plan to break the deadlock of my Rainbow Shower, which has finally appeared after a long time, is a stupid chop attack which is the only thing he remembers well…
Brocken: Well, is this really a stupid chop attack which I remember well or what!!
125.
Suguru: Ooh, look!!
Suguru: The small fragments of Prisman’s glass which is being whittled by Brocken’s Red Rain of Berlin is attaching to Brocken’s suit one after another…
Prism: Hey, you’re depressing!!
Prism: Go to Hades by my Rainbow Shower---!!
Brocken: That’s what I’ve waited for!!
126.
Brocken: It’s an Instant Mirror I’ve created by attaching to my suit the fragments of your glass body---!!
Brocken: Reflected Rainbow Shower!!
Prism: Gyaaa----!!
Brocken: Well, I’m borrowing a little of your Rainbow Shower.
127.
Announcer: What is Brocken Jr. doing turning Prisman’s Rainbow Shower to the canvas and emitting it there!!
Brocken: I’ve done it—a rescue door linking my ring and the ring where Captain Soldier is----!!
128.
(SCRAMBLE FOR THE KINNIKU THRONE ARC)
SPECIAL VTR XLII (XXXXII)
KINNIKUMAN SOLDIER VS. KINNIKUMAN SUPER PHOENIX
TN: (eyes start swirling dramatically) So...can someone explain to me the whole properties and natures of the Seven Capillaria Rays in a way...that makes sense? As I make it out so far, it basically is basic light (well, sunlight) twisted by some sort of means to become another type of...something or another (Is it light? Radiation? Something else entirely?) that just so happens to take the form of a rainbow when it falls down...oh, and it instantly kills Choujin. So then, this brings up the first and most obvious question about this chapter: if the Capillaria Rays come from the sun, then wouldn't they always be there considering how light has everything and nothing at once? (see how a ray of light can have an entire rainbow of colors but we don't see that because there is no means to change it's color without a medium like, say, a prism or a means that absorbs all colors except whatever color the object is) And if the Capillaria Rays are always within a ray of light...then shouldn't all the Choujin on Earth, let alone the entire Solar System, be...dead? (or at least slowly absorbing them and dying akin to taking in UV rays for skin cancer) I get they are trying to show off a means to make Prisman lethal enough to be on essentially "the final team of the series", but he just makes it more confusing considering his main means of fighting.
And speaking of Prisman, that's another thing that bugged me about the introduction of his Rainbow Shower and the means by which he used them: why in the world would any Choujin end up being able to emit a technique to kill other Choujin...when they themselves can also die if they get hit by the same technique? It was obvious seeing Brocken using that mirror on Prisman to reflect the Rainbow Shower back temporarily, but we saw that Prisman himself, being a Choujin (and therefore being weak to Capillaria Rays) has a weakness to his own technique! I know this sounds ridiculous, but the whole thing just makes me imagine Superman one day deciding to wear a suit made completely of Kryptonite to fight other evil Kryptonians, knowing that he himself is doomed if any piece comes off and is directly used on himself! (well OK, he would have a lead coating underneath to he can move with the suit on but you can probably get the metaphor) A Choujin having a move that literally can kill oneself and yet being used to kill other Choujin is just plain ludicrous considering the dangers that the Rainbow Shower possesses...even to Prisman himself! (at least if used in a stronger manner to how Brocken used it as opposed to using, say, a small mirror made of glass fragments and using an actual, honest-to-goodness mirror)
Aside from trying to figure out how the heck physics was ruined this chapter, there were other peculiarities to think about. For one...yeah, I can finally see why people call Super Phoenix a douche. Saying that "we want a 6-man tag match" and then completely changing the means of where they fight and turning it into "three one-on-one battles" is just sneaky. That's not about smarts, that's about failing to give the whole story when you set things up. Luckily at least Team Soldier still wants to act as a team so far...and speaking of Soldier, was I the only one who thought he was a bit wimpy in this chapter? Aside the initial attack, he just keeps taking attack after attack doing literally nothing...some leader he turned out to be. And then there's Brocken himself: you can't take him seriously anymore after he literally called the Rainbow Shower "pretty" just when he's about to be zapped into nothingness. Just because the Choujin equivalent fusing the Mirror Master and the Rainbow Raider exists in this universe doesn't mean you have to stand around and watch before getting yourself killed. You just can't take Brocken seriously with that little stunt!
