(TN: This is a tad difficult: basically the verb “haku” has two different meanings: “to tell”, which is what Phoenix is using it as, and “to vomit”, which is how Ataru is using it)

(TN: Ataru’s “power-up” style is in Japanese “Gouka no Kusodzikara”: while it probably makes more sense to call it “Inner Strength of Hellfire” or “Inner Hellfire Strength”, I decided to keep it consistent with the original “Burning Inner Strength” so thus why I called it as such)

Mayumi: There it is—Hellfire Inner Strength, which is said to be the original form of Suguru’s Burning Inner Strength---!!

KINNIKUMAN SOLDIER VS. KINNIKUMAN SUPER PHOENIX

TN: You have to give it to Yudetamago: whenever they rip off movies, they always seem to rip off ones that are really well known...and American. We've already seen homages from series that made some sense from the standpoint of this series (the "Superman" films, the "Rocky" films) and ones that made sense for...well, the purpose of the fight. (anything involving the "Mad Max" series with Bikeman) But this random usage of the photography bit from "Back to the Future" (where basically Marty ends up erasing himself and his brother and sister from existence because he ends up screwing with how his parents meet)...that is just bizarre. It's strange enough they suddenly would have a pic of Ataru from high school entrance (probably would have been 14...add 24 and that would make him at least 38...dang he's old), but here's the weirdest thing: if Ataru's being wiped clean from all of history, then wouldn't that just change the present if we go by the "Back to the Future" model? Wouldn't anything that Ataru has ever done just ceased to have ever been and thus, therefore, history itself would be permanently changed with no one having any recollections of his own existence and his being just wiped from this magical history of the Kinniku Clan? Yeesh...time changing is just so screwy...and the worst part: it seems that Yude is just as huge a fan of BttF as they are with Superman and Rocky...considering how screwed up with time manipulations they get in recent events in Nisei! (can someone page Robert Zemeckis...and can someone maybe get him to work on a manga and out of these stupid movies he's done the last few years?)

Strangely enough, aside from the weird manipulation of another famous film...this chapter actually had little to complain about. In fact, this actually is a good chapter that finally got things done in a manner of speaking...regardless of the stupidity of the "fading away from history" bit. The mere fact that Suguru finally knows of Ataru's existence and that he has a big brother is pretty much the main seal that this chapter was good, finally ending a long story arc that has been building until now and letting Suguru in on the truth as to all the weird things...just as he's about to fade away. I guess it was all for Suguru's safety...but the fact that Ataru has regrets that everything that has happened is what made it all worth it. If he and his parents saw eye-to-eye from day one, then probably the whole series would have never happened...but that's pretty much backfitting so we can't really change that. I also did like that his "Hellfire Inner Strength" and sort of imagine it as a "Burning Inner Strength" prototype from how it was depicted, releasing the flames of power externally in a blaze where it can quickly burn out instead of unleashing it on the inside and supplement the power that already exists. Heck, you could wish Suguru had flames like those Ataru had, but at the same time...it really wouldn't befit him...and he sort of already had shown a bit of that when he fought Planetman. (in probably one of the stupidest moments of the Gold Mask arc)

My only real nitpick I probably can hold off on until next time but...what makes everyone say Suguru's version of the Muscle Spark is merely 50%? From how I saw it, he saw the full Muscle Spark in his head prior and that he only got part way because the first Choujin he ended up using it on was Parthenon...and he is by no means the ideal Choujin to test something that exerts so much flexibility on. If he wasn't so bulky, maybe Suguru could have gotten a better grip on how to do the Muscle Spark...yeah he'd still need Ataru's help but at least it would be more like 60% or 70%.
