Scramble for the Kinniku Throne (93): The Secret of the Big Tusks!!
-> RTS Page for Kinnikuman 366
Just when Robin finally seemed like he was getting somewhere in taking down Mammothman, he's discovered the horrifying truth: the Big Tusks have a mind of their own!? How exactly could this come to be from the mammoth Choujin!?
Chapter 366: Scramble for the Kinniku Throne (93): The Secret of the Big Tusks!!
67.
Suguru: We have to choose much more Justice-faction Choujin due to the reduced war potential here for us Justice Choujin!!
Phoenix: No, we need to increase with much more heinous Choujin for defeating you!!
(TN: It may be silly to see Suguru and Phoenix selecting new Choujin for “the future”…but in a weird way they are: this was an advertisement for the very last “Create a Choujin” contest during the original Kinnikuman. The results will be seen in the next volume…but many of the Choujin ultimately used by Yudetamago would not appear until the beginning of Kinnikuman Nisei nearly ten years later!)
68.
Mammoth: I’ll tell you how my Big Tusks reacts to the water vapors which originate from the breathed breath and body of my competition opponent without any connection to my will.
Mammoth: I, in my group, was said to have gone extinct during the Ice Age around 10,000 years ago.
Mammoth: Just like my other colleagues, I too
Mammoth: Was imprisoned within the ice in the mountain recesses of Alaska.
69.
Mammoth: So then, how is it that I can survive…!? It’s because just my two Big Tusks ended up not being sealed in ice when I was imprisoned within the ice.
Mammoth: I stabbed with these Big Tusks people and animals that entered into the Alaskan mountains, acquiring the ability to absorb nourishment.
Mammoth: And thus, as it continued every day
Mammoth: Even as I was sleeping
Mammoth: Eventually these Big Tusks reacted to the water vapors which originate from the breathed breath and bodies of people and animals and came to attack them by themselves.
70.
(Filler page…yeah, Suguru is in a good mood)
71.
Announcer: And now the terrible secret of the Big Tusks, which possess an infallible hitting ratio, has been made public----!!
Robin: U…U—h, Ma…Mammothman’s Big Tusks are surely a super-exact weapon forged in training for killing Choujin. Whatever becomes of this, I can’t have it defeat me.
Suguru: Robi—n, stand firm!!
Suguru: Robin, everyone is thinking you are seriously wounded by the injury you took by the Big Tusks, but we—ll, as I see it, your body’s complexion is fine and you still quite lively in the light of your eyes!!
72.
Suguru: You’re great---!!
Robin: Kinnikuman…you seem to have a face that doesn’t worry, always worrying the most about your ally Choujin over anyone…you’ve always been like that since I first met you eight years ago.
(TN: We’re going to get a lot of screwy moments from here regarding this…Robin obviously is talking about the first Choujin Olympics arc which started in the end of 1979…well this is the end of 1986, which makes Robin and Suguru’s first encounter “seven” years ago, not eight. But Robin…heh, I really can’t make myself fix Yude’s mistakes here due to it not being my series but essentially we’re going to be hearing a lot of that from here as the Robin fight keeps going on…and it’s going to drive us all mad)
Robin: I want to see it! The form of the kind-hearted Kinnikuman wearing the crown of Great King of Planet Kinniku…
Robin: Even for that, I don’t have a reason to yield facing Mammothman’s Big Tusks now!!
Boy: Kinnikuma—n!!
Announcer: A boy holding a birdcage has rushed in from guest seats in the middle of the match---!!
Suguru: What’s wrong, boy?
73.
Boy: This is Blue Thunder, a Green Pigeon I raised at home.
(TN: The “Green Pigeon” has a full name of the “White-bellied Green-pigeon”, scientific name “Treron Sieboldii”. It is a bird of the Columbidae (pigeon/dove) family that lives in temperate forests across East and Southeast Asia. Strangely the Japanese name for the bird is “Aobato”, which literally translates as the “Blue Pigeon”…yeah, “Blue Thunder” works better with a “Blue Pigeon” but since it is officially called the “Green Pigeon”, I will be going with “Green Pigeon”)
Suguru: Ooh, a blue pigeon is rare.
Boy: I saw Robin Mask doing this tough match with Mammothman on TV and I couldn’t get rid of it closing my eyes…They say that a “blue bird brings good luck”; therefore if I gave Blue Thunder as a present to Team Kinnikuman, then I think it can have Robin reverse this.
Suguru: Ooh, boy, thank you: if he saw that, then even Robin Mask will get energetic.
Suguru: He—y, Robin, this boy that’s your fan brought a blue bird that can call good luck for you!!
Suguru: Ge, the door of the birdcage!!
Suguru: Aah, the blue pigeon…!!
74.
Announcer: Aah, the blue pigeon escaping from the birdcage is flying aiming for Mammothman in the ring---!!
Mammoth: Uwa!!
Announcer: And is blocking his eyes---!!
Robin: I’m thankful; now I can run!!
75.
Announcer: With that opening, Robin Mask has taken out the Big Tusks that had pierced into his back…
Announcer: And thrown an intense Enzuigiri to the back of Mammothman’s head---!!
Mammoth: Uo!!
Announcer: Mammothman’s large build is greatly collapsing---!!
Suguru: He did it—your blue pigeon has immediately brought good luck to Robin---!!
76.
Mammoth: Nuoo!! This stupid bird intruded needlessly---!!
Boy: Aah, my Blue Thunder is in Mammothman’s Powerful Nose---!!
Mammoth: Die---!!
Robin: Blue Thunder!!
Boy: Blue Thunder!!
77.
Announcer: The blue bird that saved Robin’s life has had it’s own life severed by Mammothman’s Powerful Nose in place of Robin---!!
Boy: Blue Thunder~~~……
Robin: Mammothman…
Robin: You---!!
Announcer: The aerial Robin Mask is doing a decisive angry Flying Body Attack aiming for Mammothman---!!
78.
Announcer: Mammothman’s Powerful Nose has twined itself to Robin Mask’s torso---!!
Mammoth: You’re the moth flying to the flame, Robin Mask!! Powerful Nose!!
Mammoth: Pao---!!
Announcer: Mammothman as is has inverted Robin Mask and sunk his head into the canvas with just the power of his nose!!
Neptune: Ooh, he’s standing upside-down on top of Robin Mask who has been skewered into the canvas!!
79.
Suguru: Aah, that stance is the stance of the Ghost Canvas, which I saw Mammothman do in his match with Golemman of Team Big Body---!!
Neptune: Ghost Canvas!?
Suguru: An upside-down Mammothman takes both legs of his competition opponent, which he has stuck just their head to the canvas and, with that, twists hard the competition opponent round and round with the fulcrum as the neck that is stuck into the canvas!!
Neptune: If he does that, then in the end just the head will be in the canvas and the torso will be torn off by Mammothman!!
Voice: GUHAHAHA
80.
Mammoth: Watch—the way that Robin Mask’s head is chewed up by the canvas----!! The Ghost Canvas takes its name from the head of the competition opponent getting chewed up as if the canvas is a living thing.
Suguru It’s—come to this! I’m jump at him with a Drop Kick—
Neptune: Hold on, Kinnikuman!!
Neptune: Mammothman is midway through screwing Robin’s neck. If you throw a Drop Kick now, then it will just accelerate Robin’s head being torn off!!
81.
Suguru: Is…there another means to save Robin?
Neptune: There is no method at all for us to save Robin…we can only hope that Robin can escape from the Ghost Canvas by himself!
Suguru: But…that’s—how can he escape by himself from this dreaded special technique…!!
Robin: UGYAAAA
Announcer: Robin Mask’s screams are echoing through the castle---!!
Mammoth: Well well, if I twist it just a bit more, I’ll tear off Robin Mask’s head.
Robin: Uwaa~~~!!
82.
Mammoth: N? My Big Tusks are!?
Announcer: Is something the matter: both of Mammothman’s Big Tusks are suddenly starting to stretch straight to the ceiling---!!
Mammoth: Wh…what’s wrong: Robin Mask is beneath, and yet why are the Big Tusks stretching towards above!?
Boy: I know: it’s due to my Blue Thunder that Mammothman’s Big Tusks are stretching to the ceiling---!!
83.
Neptune: That’s…right…in truth, Mammothman’s Big Tusks possess the property to react to the blood and sweat of a living thing without connection to his will and stretch to that direction…
Neptune: In short…Mammothman’s Big Tusks until now have been reacting to the blood and sweat that came from Robin Mask’s body, skewering the body of Robin Mask, but now Robin’s body has broken down, running out of blood and sweat and coming to not have the things that the Big Tusks react to.
Suguru: Right—I get it: Robin’s body is at a point where it has no reactive items and the Big Tusks are awakened a reaction to the blood of a new living thing due to the bloodshed of the blue pigeon that Mammothman threw to the ceiling earlier!!
Announcer: Mammothman’s Big Tusks are rapidly stretching---!!
84.
Announcer: Mammothman’s Big Tusks have pierced into the iron plates that dangle the room lights---!! And coming along that, Mammothman’s body is letting go from Robin Mask as well and is floating in air---!!
Robin: Boy, your blue pigeon seems to have now given good luck to me---!!
Announcer: Robin Mask has escaped while turning his body which had been screwed into the canvas---!!
Robin: Too!!
85.
Robin: Ooh!!
Announcer: Robin Mask has thrown a Back Drop on Mammothman from behind---!!
86.
Announcer: However, Mammothman is further standing tenaciously---!!
Robin: Mammothman, your Big Tusks are the best at reacting to the fresh blood of people and animals.
Announcer: Robin Mask is making wounds he’s widening deeper than those he bore from Mammothman’s Big Tusks with the nails on both of his hands---!!
87.
Mammoth: Torya---!!
Robin: --Waoo—you’re coming here; are you intending on stabbing me---!!
Robin: Well, Big Tusks, react to my fresh blood---!!
Announcer: Both of Mammothman’s Big Tusks are now starting to react to the blood flowing from both of Robin Mask’s shoulders!!
88.

ROBIN MASK VS. MAMMOTHMAN
TN: This chapter nearly killed me with the weird particular way upon which Mammothman talks and how he tried to explain the origin of the Big Tusks. When I first saw that section before translating it, somehow I had one really ridiculous idea: that Mammothman was a composite Choujin of a human and this "mammoth" whom somehow his pelt lead to his usage of the Big Tusks. Considering Mammothman looks like a massive human with a mammoth pelt on his body, the comparison was sort of easy to make. With one way that the first line of Mammothman's explanation, I nearly seemed to follow along that line: somehow "he" was a man who was friends with Mammothman and they froze into the ice together somehow back during the Ice Age. (yeah...I sort of can't get into the stupidity regarding the extinction of the mammoths yet...I want to do a whole speech on that but we'll wait for next time when it gets even stupider) But here's the thing: there always was just one "Mammothman"...and somehow, with all the mammoths we see in this and the next chapter, one just seems to stand out as "walking on two legs and being different" even when he ended up being frozen in ice. (great now I have images of "Encino Man" in my head...I thought Pauly Shore played the caveman but luckily that was Brendan Frasier....though Shore still had a role in it sadly from what I've read) I really sort of wished I knew how he had gone from being an "anthromorphic mammoth" to a "large man with what looks like a mammoth pelt on his body", but there have been so many weird ways Choujin change their look that it's sort of one of those things you just have to overlook and take at face value.
Of course while it's confusing enough to talk about Ice Age mammals, the chapter really hits the stupid zone with the plot device of...Blue Thunder. Yes...lets just think about it: in the middle of a fight to determine the Throne once and for all, a kid just pops in from out of nowhere just to deliver his bird to Robin. And, of course, the bird not only blocks Mammothman's sight but ultimately brings down a major disadvantage to his Big Tusks. It's...just unexplainable: how in the world can some boy go from watching the final match on TV to delivering a bird that just becomes the stupidest plot device yet!? And while it's probably a good thing that it didn't just randomly poop in Mammothman's eyes (though being a pigeon you would expect it), it just seems to take away the little legitimacy this match is actually trying to take! Yes folks, you don't need wrestling skill to defeat killer mammoth tusks, you just need an enthusiastic boy and his stupid blue pigeon...excuse me while I cry in the corner with this insanity. (and that's not getting into our little paleontology lesson next time...)
