Jungle no Ouja Taa-chan 2
Helen-chan Appears
-> RTS Page for Jungle no Ouja Taa-chan 2
To be the king of the jungle is to live a life of danger and problems...especially with a girl who wants you bad...and a fat, ugly woman who is...well, your wife! (well she used to be hot...)
No. 2: Helen-chan Appears
13.
Ta-chan: Father, mother, its best you don’t help me at all since I am already old enough.
Narrator: King of the jungle Ta-chan was found and raised by these two chimpanzees when he was very young.
Caption: Rhinoceros
(TN: Though there are various names for the animal, all general species of rhino are just called “sai” in Japanese)
14.
Chimp: Ki—ki—
Ta-chan: Y…you’re the girl attacked by the crocodiles before.
Chimp: Ki—ki—
“Girl”: Why didn’t you come to that camp that night? I was waiting to fully give my thanks to you.
“Girl”: I had taken a bath, put on my new panties and was wearing my pink negligee.
Chimp: Ki—ki—ki—ki—
“Girl”: Did you not feel the charm because I’m a child…but I’m already 16.
Chimp: Ki—ki—ki—ki—
(TN: Another weird bit of trivia I have to get out there: get used to the erection jokes…in some sources, Tokuhiro is the man who brought the joke to Jump in the first place, using it in “Shape Up Ran” before it’s more well known usage in Tsukasa Hojo’s “City Hunter”)
15.
Ta-chan: Haa haa haa haa 16, haa haa haa, that’s dangerous, 16, haa haa haa I can’t, she’s 16, haa haa
Chimp: Ki—ki—ki—ki—
Caption: Dummy
(TN: Another weird joke that has to be explained since we’ll be seeing it a few times: obviously the caption of “dummy” is with an upside-down hippopotamus. Basically, the Japanese word for “hippo” is “kaba”, thus by turning a hippo upside down, it ends up having an inversion from “kaba” or “hippo” to “baka” or “dummy”.)
Ta-chan: My…my wife, Jane.
Caption: Leftovers
Helen: Good day, I am Helen Noguchi. I’m Japanese. Yesterday I was saved from a dangerous place by Ta-chan.
Jane: Well—you’re a cute girl. I want to eat you up.
Narrator: Perhaps Jane is burning in jealousy and Ta-chan is a wee-bit worried. But…
Jane: I ate her.
16.
Ta-chan: Hahahahaha
Ta-chan: He—well, Helen came here from America?
Helen: Yep. Last year my father died, I became a duo with my mother and we went together to America where mother formerly worked.
Ta-chan: Hmm hmm.
Helen: My father was Harold…he studied electric engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. My mother is Youko…she came out of the physical science department of Toudai, went abroad to MIT and got to know my father.
(TN: In case you’re wondering, yes Helen is telling the truth about it. Incidentally, the full name of MIT in Japanese is “Masachuusettsu Kouka Daigaku”, but it keeps the MIT acronym in Japanese)
17.
Helen: Mother came to Africa so she could make an inspection from a global opinion about the decrease of ozone within the atmosphere by fluon gas.
(TN: This is sort of a timely, topical matter for those who don’t really remember or recall this: from the mid 1970s and in particular during the 1980s and early 1990s, there was a major concern and movement due to the hole in the ozone layer caused by CFC fluorocarbons emitted in the Earth’s atmosphere by humans. While it is still a massive and important concern, a recent study in 2010 shows that the hole has finally stopped growing and that it will start taking time before the ozone layer begins to heal itself to a level prior to all of the causes humans made to hurt it)
Narrator: Ta-chan doesn’t understand 1/10th of the conversation.
Ta-chan: Understood.
Caption: But he trusts it.
Helen: What are your parents like, Ta-chan?
Ta-chan: No, this isn’t anything embarrassing.
Narrator: Ta-chan thought he would mistake himself with instant embarrassment with his raising parents as chimpanzees.
Ta-chan: Those are my parents!
Caption: Clearly
Caption: Unexpectedly copulating.
18.
Jane: Ahahahaha, are you surprised? He was raised by monkeys until he was 20 and since then has been trained by me.
Helen: Eh—
Caption: Tarsier
(TN: A “tarsier”, also known as “meganezaru” [which literally translates into “glasses monkey”], is a genus of the family Tarsiidae; while fossils of the monkey do exist in Africa, all known species live on various islands of Southeast Asia, including the Phillipines, Sulawesi, Borneo and Sumatra and are notable for their massive eyes)
Helen: So then, I’m in the way. See—ya, Ta-chan, bye-by—e
Ta-chan: I didn’t say it after all.
19.
Ta-chan: Reflecting.
Jane: Don’t come back anymore—OK?
Caption: DO YOUR BEST, TA-CHAN, NOW IS A NEW DRAMA WITH AFRICA THE STAGE. ITS 7 PAGES EACH CHAPTER, BUT IT’S STARTED!!
Editor: Tarsiers don’t live in Africa
Tokuhiro: What, stop your contribution—huh?
(TN: The Japanese word used for “contribution” is “tousho”, which also translates into “letter to the editor”…and apparently Tokuhiro’s editor is depicted in the last panel here alongside Tokuhiro himself)

Me and Animals: #1
Since I was small, we raised a dog in our house.
Since my father was a hunter, we had a hunting dog.
My father quit hunting when I was in high school, but we raised a dog as usual.
Since mother had to do work transporting school lunches to a grade school on top of a mountain, the dog pulled the school lunches and climbed up the slope.
Elle, our beagle, was dumb in the head, but it did pull well.
Caption 1: Elle
Caption 2: Quite difficult one-wheel driving
Caption 3: I did this every day when I was a ronin.
(TN: The “ronin” concept involves a lordless samurai or, in the case of modern times, a former high-school student who has not gotten into university and is taking time off either intentionally [to get into the right university] or not)
Caption 4: My countryside was within the mountains of Kouchi.
(TN: “Kouchi” refers to Kouchi Prefecture on the southern coast of Shikoku. Though the largest prefecture of Shikoku, it is the least resided and the most mountainous)
TN: Well two chapters in and I doubt anyone is going to read this anymore. The first chapter was essentially Ta-chan wanting to have sex with a 16 year old...and this chapter has his "dad" swinging on an erection and Jane smashing him over the head with a hippo...well OK, that part was funny. Then again, a lot of this series is funny and there is a lot going on, but Ta-chan is one of those series where you have to go with the flow and deal with a lot of this weirdness and sick bits...if only for us to get to the good parts! (at least Jane keeps things funny...weird and sick yes but funny since she's not the one who has the eternal "in the mood" button down around the loins)
