Jungle no Ouja Taa-chan 6
Ta-chan’s Work
-> RTS Page for Jungle no Ouja Taa-chan 6
So he may be king of the jungle...but what does Ta-chan do for a living...when not being bothered by many of his other problems?
No. 6: Ta-chan’s Work
44.
Ta-chan: I’ve decided on their names.
Captions:
Right Chimp: Eteko
Left Chimp: Etekichi
Narrator: The work of the king of the jungle isn’t all just the washing of his wife’s underwear!!
Ta-chan: ………
SFX: Gata gata gata gata
45.
Narrator: The animals react sensitively to the appearance of hunters.
SFX: Basa basa basa basa
SFX: Buri buri
Caption: Etekichi, who whoheartedly is indulging in copulation.
Etekichi: Ki
Ta-chan: You react with that, you idiot!!
SFX: Baki—n
Giraffe: Hi—n!!
Tokuhiro: A giraffe somehow didn’t and got in return; that’s the reason.
46.
Ta-chan: Come, Etekichi!!
Narrator: He wishes to boldly battle those crafty, inhuman poachers. A hero of justice, that is…
Narrator: Ta-chan the Man-Ape, the strongest man in the jungle!!
(TN: One of the key terms used here for describing Ta-chan, like Tarzan before him, is “Ruijinen”; the term generally is used in conjunction to these wild men as “Man-Ape” as such by their raising by non-human simians. But in other contexts, “ruijinen” also has a meaning of “anthropoid” (as in the group which both humans and other simians are generally grouped together) or the term “troglodyte”. But in the case of this series, “ruijinen” will be treated like the Tarzan version and be translated as “Man-Ape”)
SFX: So—
47.
SFX: Gasa
Hunter: Whose there? Get out, whatever is hidden there!!
SFX: Cha
Ta-chan: Da…damn……
SFX: Nya~~~~…
Narrator: They’re hunters!!
Hunter: What are you, a cat? Fire!!
(TN: Assumably the “nya” before is in connection to the “nya” sound of the previous panel)
48.
Narrator: Nimble like a squirrel monkey!
(TN: The squirrel monkey refers to the New World monkey of genus Saimiri, generally found in the canopies of forests in Central and South America)
Hunters: Wa, a human!!
Narrator: Bold like a mountain gorilla!!
(TN: The mountain gorilla, most likely in reference to the endangered animal Gorilla Beringei Beringei, is a large mountain who usually lives in the Albertine Rift Montane coud forests and Viruga Volcanoes of Africa)
SFX: Ban ban ban
Narrator: Light like a long-tailed monkey!!
(TN: The “long-tailed monkey” refers to Cercopithecidae”, a primate group also known as “Old World Monkeys” that are native to Africa and Asia and includes many of the most familiar primates, including baboons and macaques)
49.
Hunter: Damn you, we’ll remember this!!
Ta-chan: I’ll always be your opponent.
Ta-chan: You’ll be fine: I’ll put on some medicinal plants and give you treatment.
Caption: Next morning
Ta-chan: The giraffe I saved yesterday has brought grapes.
Ta-chan: Be careful from here on.
SFX: Mosha mosha
50.
Narrator: In short: Protecting animals from hunters is Ta-chan’s work!!
Caption: Including a person in thanks; is actually a man-eating lion.
SFX: Peko
Jane: In spite of you two being saved, you came empty handed.
Ta-chan: Hey, hey.
Caption: Raccoons
(TN: Raccoon, also known as “meles meles” or the “Euroasian badger”, is in Japanese “araiguma”; thus they’re being used for washing because “arai” was connected to “arau”, the Japanese verb for “to wash”)
SFX: Se se
Narrator: Even so, the courtesy of the animals is wanted.
TN: Not much to say really this time: the chapter for the most part was simple enough in setting up Ta-chan along the lines of Tarzan, with Etekichi sort of as his monkey assistant. Sure...there are still "those moments"...but strangely they're starting to be taken for granted considering the humor style of the series. Though I really like the verbal humor that Tokuhiro uses, this time with the "washing raccoons"...that is rather useful thinking about it.
