Being the strongest man in Africa may seem a set concept, but there are always those hoping to take your title! Such is the life of one of the strongest of the Upopo...

No. 10: Anabebe the Hero

75.
Caption: African Water Buffalo
Narrator: It’s Anabebe, warrior of the Upopo Tribe, the strongest tribe in Africa!!
Anabebe: CHINKASU!! (Push much more!!)
(TN: Once again the Upopo seems to say one thing when they may mean another. Here “chinkasu” is close to the Japanese word “chinka desu” or “I’m sinking”)
Caption: Words of the Upopo Tribe
Anabebe: Chinko Myanko Senko Unko… (1, 2, 3, 4…)
Caption: Hippo
(TN: I couldn’t quite read the whole tiny caption here, but it has something to do with the Upopo tribe. Incidentally, the four words used for Anabebe’s counting here include three that are actual words but are all used probably due to the “ko” endings:
-Chinko = Penis
-Myanko = doesn’t really exist as a word thus it has no meaning
-Senko = Antiquity
-Unko = Poop)

76.
Ta-chan: Huh, isn’t that Anabebe?
Helen: He’s an interesting man; he’s training with animals.
Anabebe: Chinko Myanko Senko Unko!!
Ta-chan: Hey.
Caption: Armadillo
Armadillo: Ah—an aesthetic

77.
Ta-chan: What are you doing, Anabebe?
Anabebe: Haa haa haa
Anabebe: Marakasu (It’s been a while)
(TN: “Marakasu” in Japanese is merely “maracas”)
Helen: Kya
Ta-chan: What’s with the marakasu? This is your first meeting with her!
Anabebe: Seijooi Kijooi Sonnoojooi Chinko Senzuuri Chingechinge Kussa—
(TN: More “translations” of a few words for what Anabebe is “saying”:
-“Seijoui” = “Missionary Position”/”Normal Posture”
-“Sonno Joui” = “Revere the Emperor, Expel the Barbarians”, a philosophy of Japan during the 1850s/1860s during their move to overthrow the Tokugawa.
-“Chinko” = “Penis”
-“Senzuri” = “Masturbation (by a male)”
-“Chinge” = “Chin Hair”)
Helen: N…no way—what is he saying?
Ta-chan: The words of the Upopo Tribe aren’t understood well even by me. Hey, what were you saying?
Anabebe: Nothing really—it’s because a girl blushing from vulgar language is cute.
Ta-chan: You!!

78.
Ta-chan: Understood: he holds the position of being No. 1 in Africa and is training so he can fight the other warriors of the tribe.
Helen: What are you saying?
Ta-chan: Anabebe is respected as the No. 1 warrior in Africa.
Ta-chan: In short, it’s a challenge where if other warriors find an opening, they’ll defeat Anabebe nad he’ll have his position taken of being No. 1.
Ta-chan: However, his opponent is quite a man to have him training to this extent.
Hippo: Oe~~
Caption: The hippo has motion-sickness.

79.
Narrator: AND THUS CAME THE DAY OF THE FIGHT!!
Upopo: Anabebe, Kokisugi Kokisugi (Anabebe, don’t lose!!) Anabebe, Omae no Kaachan De Beeeso. (Anabebe, you’re the pride of Africa!!)
(TN: More Upopo translations:
-“Kokisugi” = “Too Threshing”
-“Omae no Kaachan de Beeeso” = “Your mother has a sad face”; “Beso” is the “sad face” usually shown by a grumpy, upset baby that isn’t crying)
Caption: Everyone of the Upopo Tribe
Helen: Anabebe-san is really popular.
Ta-chan: Because he’s a superstar who has continued to defend his position as the No. 1 in Africa for over 10 years.
Salesman: Don’t you want this—
Sign: Penis Cases Signed in Anabebe’s Own Handwriting

80.
Opponent: LET’S GO, ANABEBE!!
Upopo Tribe: Upopo Anabebe Chinpo Chinpo. Anabebe Tamatama Kussa—Inmo Naga—i! (Consult No. 5 for Translation)
Narrator: The warrior Anabebe: he is the hero of Africa, loved and respected from the people!!

81.
SFX: Koso koso
SFX: Chapon
Armadillo: Enough; sorry I was a training assistant…
Narrator: But he was hated by some animals.

TN: And thus we continue with the "wacky world of the Upopo", this time complete with...um, more penis guards. As much as it could seem as animal cruelty, I did think it was cool that Anabebe trained with animals to keep himself the best of his tribe, not to mention his whole bit of "sounding like a savage to get at the ladies." (though I doubt Helen wants anything to do with him with the last time she tried to talk to native Africans) I sort of wished the scans that I had were of better quality to get some of the smaller texts that the chapters had.
