As strong and powerful as the Upopo tribe are, there is one horrible matter that gives them such power...which is why Anabebe may need Ta-chan's help to avoid it!

No. 15: Law of the Upopo Tribe

(TN: Just as a slight reminder: “Marakasu” is Anabebe’s way of saying “it’s been a while”, but since it’s essentially “Maracas”, we got that short introductory interlude)

Ta-chan: Do you have some business, Anabebe?

Anabebe: Actually, I’ve come to borrow your wisdom, Ta-chan.
Ta-chan: What is it? Has things gotten worse?
Anabebe: As you know, we of the Upopo tribe are a tribe who obtains status and the things we want from duels.
Anabebe: Two girls of the tribe are quarreling over marrying me and it has become an official duel. (I’br brought two dolls.
Ta-chan: He—it’s finally time for you to pay your tax?
Anabebe: One is the 18-year old Saria, a lively gal. This is a clay doll I’ve made in her image.
Anabebe: The other is the 33-year old Zubeta, I’ve surpisingly put body hair within it.

Anabebe: I beg you: somehow I want this to be won by Saria. I love her!!
Anabebe: But Zubeta is the No. 1 female warrior of the Upopo tribe. There isn’t a chance for Saria to win.
Anabebe: Nothing can be done by me as by the law of the Upopo Tribe: I must marry the winner…
Anabebe: You don’t have to merely speak of it. Here’s gold dust as thanks.
SFX: Kira kira
SFX: Kira kira
Ta-chan: Wa…wait: if I don’t consult this with Jane, then it’s at my discretion…
SFX: Suu—(suck)

Saria: Please take care of m—e.
Anabebe: She’s cute.
Ta-chan: First we’ll go from push-ups. Do these push-ups together with me.
Ta-chan: 11, 12, 13.
Saria: A—h, Saria can’t do it anymore.
Saria: E—h, e—h
Anabebe: That’s fine: even if we can’t overdo this, I’ll do them in your place.

SFX: Haa haa haa haa haa haa haa
Anabebe: I’ll do this.
Jane: What can we do with those two competing?
Saria: Don’t lose, Anabebe.

Narrator: And so, the time of the showdown came!!
Anabebe: I beg you Jane, Ta-chan.
Jane: Fine: when the battle begins, we’ll blow the dart we lacquered with anesthetic.
Ta-chan: But this is a cowardly method……
Jane: That isn’t so. Saria can’t win against that monster.

Zubeta: UO---!!
SFX: Ka
Zubeta: Hahahahaha, That’s a trap arranged by that Anabebe; I forecasted that since long ago!
Saria: I…I give up.
Caption: Wives of the 4 Heavenly Kings of the Upopo Tribe…
Long Face: Hey, Zubeta, it’s as I said: the one who should be careful was Anabebe.
Cross-Eye: Eww—wasn’t that the same as the method used by my hubby. So nostalgic—
Double-Braid: I somehow was poisoned by him.
Narrator: As such, the Upopo Tribe can’t exterminate the blood of the strongest tribe in Africa. This is the strict law of the tribe!!

Jane: A…Anabebe, you’re getting married next month. Congratulations.
Anabebe: Return the gold dust.
Ta-chan: It’s still in the elephant…
SFX: Puri puri | Dosa

Narrator: Anabebe: it never rains for him, it pours poop…
(TN: The punchline of the chapter refers to a Japanese expression of “fundari kettari”, which is essentially is the Japanese version of “it never rains, it pours”. However, the “fun” used here, which usally involves the kanji for “to trample”, here ends up using the “fun” for “feces” or “excrement”, thus I adjusted the joke to make it “it never rains, it pours poop” to keep the essentiality and the scatological humor)

TN: Amazingly as sick as the last joke was, I thought it was sort of hilarious and appropriate for how it ended up. Obviously if it goes in through one end of the elephant, the gold dust it ate would have to come out the other side eventually. (and right on top of Anabebe...who deserved it for fighting the fate of his tribe) I do sort of admit that I have a thing for muscle women...just not ugly, freakish ones like Zubeta and her "sisters". I do sort of think that somehow even Saria will end up like that someday considering the fate of the Upopo...but by then Anabebe will be too old to really care anyway.
