With Jane's old life of fame and fortune, there are many who remember her from back then...even if they've moved on with their lives and Jane's...just changed a lot more.
No. 29: Candy the Old Friend
98.
Voice: And the 1981 Playmate of the Year is?
(TN: The “Playmate of the Year” for Playboy is chosen usually from a group of Playmates of the Month over the year since the last was chosen, usually done around June of the current year. Therefore, this announcement would be occurring in June, 1981. BTW: the real “Playmate of 1981”, for those who wish to know, was Terri Welles, who originally started out as a stewardess, was Playmate of the Month in December, 1980, and did actually get into a bit of a fight with Playboy in 1997 due to publishing pictures of herself on the internet using “Playboy” in advertising herself, which she ultimately won. (the site has since gone down, not because of copyright problems but because she chose to do so))
Voice: Miss Jane!!
Caption: Half-asleep.
Jane: Tehehehehe……
Announcer: She gains an extra prize of $100,000 and will be given a BMB Turbo!
(TN: This is actually authentic: as an extra bonus for winning “Playmate of the Year”, the winning model also gets a monetary prize and a car. Incidentally, the car that Miss Welles received for her 1981 victory was a 1981 Porsche 924 Turbo. Of course there is no “BMB”, obviously being a parody of BMW)

Ta-chan?
Jane: Huh, that’s strange. The door won’t open.
SFX: Gacha gacha
Announcer: Hahaha: actually, the newest model of BMB has the door open to above.
Caption: Hippo
Ta-chan: Oh brother: she’s having a dream where she’s driving.
Caption: Changing the gear.
100.
Jane: It’s a photo of when I became the Playmate champion.
Ta-chan: Heh—the girl that was photographed next to you is equally pretty to you, Jane.
(TN: Ta-chan doesn’t merely say “equally” but “makezuotorazu”, which is “equally balanced” or “equally talented”)
Jane: She’s my close-friend Candy. She was a good discussion partner as a similar Playmate.
Jane: Well—ultimately I was chosen to be Playmate of the Year and left her far behind but.
Jane: Now that I mention it, how is she now? I want to meet her after a long time.
Ta-chan: Wouldn’t she not know you even if she met you?
Jane: What does that mean?
Man: Um—I wanted to ask for a guide but can you undertake it here?
101.
Jane: No no: we’ll reject because recently we’ve had many customers with many requests.
“Woman”: What’s wrong, dear?
SFX: Gacha
Jane: CA…CANDY
Candy: You can’t be…
Candy: Perhaps if I possibly am mistaking you for another, then I’m sorry Jane.
Jane: That’s right: haven’t you not changed one bit in 7 years, Candy, how nostalgic.
Ta-chan: Hello there—
Candy: Y…you’re Jane. Haven’t you not changed one bit.
Jane: Ultimately…
Candy: For example: she’s the woman of long ago in her fingerprints.
Caption: There isn’t a person whose fingerprints change.
102.
Jane: Heh—you’ve already been married for 6 years.
Candy: Yes—since I quit being a Playmate that year, I became a lawyer. I met my husband and we got married.
(TN: Sort of just something I need to spell out: you never quit being a Playmate. It’s sort of a Playboy policy: even if you are no longer in that month, the magazine has a policy of “once a Playmate, always a Playmate”)
Jane: He’s somewhat a difficult-seeming man.
Candy: He wasn’t like that long ago.
Candy: He’s come to have been gloomy like he forgot how to laugh since we lost our daughter in a traffic accident last year. This trip was to return him to a cheerful person like long ago, yet it’s been impossible.
Jane: Heh—
Candy: Jane’s husband is cheerful.
Ta-chan: They’re real kiwi. Well which will it be?
Caption: His testicle was mistaken just as such.
103.
Narrator: As such, Jane rolled out enjoyable Africa information due to being a long ago nostalgic friend.
Candy: I’m sorry, that’s enough. Thank you.
Ta-chan: OK, if it’s come to this, then it’s the trump card. I hadn’t wanted to use this one until the end but
Ta-chan: How about this, husband: from here we’re starting the animal name-addressing quiz.
Ta-chan: OK, WHAT ARE THOSE ANIMALS!!
104.
Caption: Baboon Baboon Baboon Baboon Baboon Baboon
Candy’s Husband: Hihi hihi hihi hihi hihi hihi
Ta-chan: There, he laughed!!
(TN: The joke here is a really bizarre one but its one that only really works in Japanese. The Japanese word for “baboon” is “hihi”, thus why Ta-chan used it to try and make the husband laugh)
Jane: Are you stupid? That’s tied to an about-face!!
Candy’s Husband: Pu
Candy’s Husband: Buhahahahahahahahaha
Candy: Great: the stupidity of you two as husband and wife is the funniest in Africa.
Narrator: THAT’S THE END!!

10. Happiness
I’d say that I discovered 200 Million Yen in a bamboo grove somewhere, but the person who found it really was happy.
“A happy person is a person who remembers just fulfillment from the lifetime of their past self; an unhappy person is a person who remembers the opposite of this.” –Haigwara Sakutarou
(TN: Sakutarou Hagiwara is a Japanese writer of the Taishou and early Showa period and stated as the “father of modern colloquial poetry”.
Man: Can’t you the name. This occurred before you wrote it in Super Jump this month.
Tokuhiro: EH? That thing…who are you…
TN: I'm sorry I had to make that comment during the TN but it just had to be said: once you're a Playmate, you're always welcome at Hugh Hefner's place. Candy may have left it behind for a true, serious position, but she had to be a Playmate once in order to be up against Jane for the Playmate of the Year award, therefore she's forever a Playmate regardless of what she is now. I know how many consider Playboy's actions as sexist, but this is the rules and regulations they follow and I'm just commenting on them. Regardless, I really did like the weird "Hihi" joke at the end even if it was all sort of a roundabout way to get to the whole bit with the husband. Heck, I sort of find it ridiculous that the chapter is supposed to be about Candy, yet they're in Africa because her husband can't laugh. It just felt like it should have been a different chapter instead of sneaking in with what could have been a nice reunion between the two former Playmates.
