Kinnikuman 53
The Ruined Prince
Kinnikuman has said "Aloha" to the gorgeous paradise of Hawaii! But what he thinks is just going to be a nice day at the beach may be the beginning of a new set of Choujin trials!
Chapter 53: The Ruined Prince
177.
Suguru: The lead is me, everyone!
178.
“Kazuo”: Kinnikuman arrived in Hawaii at 3:04. 4 minutes later than planned…
“Kazuo”: Welcome, champion. Welcome to Hawaii.
“Kazuo”: I am your manager, the guidance clerk.
“Kazuo”: Kazu Nakao, 2nd Generation Japanese.
Meat: Can you help us a bit without being stylish?
Nakano: You go it……
Suguru: OW---!!
179.
Suguru: We’ve gotten nothing but coconuts, shall I hit you with one……
Nakano: The promoter really hates you for being loose with time. Those on the circuit shouldn’t forget that “Time is Money”.
Suguru: We…well then, Nakano, what are our plans later? Giving autographs? And then a TV appearance?
Nakano: You’ve immediately got a match tonight…
Nakano: Pardon me. Your fighting arena will be Mountain Stadium, which was built on a shaved-off mountain.
Suguru: I’ve just finished the Olympics and I’ve already got a match…
180.
Girls: Ah…OH…
Meat: Oh…prince, aren’t you really popular?
Suguru: Well actually I have become famous.
181.
Meat: They’re fans of that guy…
Suguru: What is that flashy guy?
Nakano: The one riding the artificial sun is the Hawaiian champion, Jessie Malvia…
Suguru: The Hawaiian champion? He’s the appropriate opponent for my first match on my overseas tour.
Nakano: No one has a match against the Hawaiian champion.
Suguru: So, who am I facing in my match tonight?
Nakano: Fufu…you’ll know him immediately…
182.
Kamehame: Haa haa haa
Girls: Ah…Jessie’s attendant……
Malvia: Kamehame, take my ring costume to the locker room.
Kamehame: Oh--!! Kinnikuman, let’s fight fairly tonight.
Suguru: What is that filthy-faced man?
183.
Nakano: The former champion Kamehame, who you’re fighting tonight…
Suguru: WHAAT---!!
Nakano: Originally from Planet Coconuts, he too was born from a good family long ago, but now he’s been ruined…
Suguru: HE’S AN IDIOT~~~
Nakano: You can’t cancel it. The arena has been booked and there is publicity for it!
Meat: Ge…look closely, the posters are placed stupidly.
Suguru: But if there’s a Hawaiian champion, why must I fight his attendant? No----!! Why can’t I fight the Hawaiian champion!!
Nakano: UWA
Voice: Let me answer that.
Nakano: Yo…you’re…
184.
Nakano: Promoter Duke Kamata!!
Kamata: Welcome great champ. First to my office.
Panting: Vermeer
Suguru: Answer me: why do I have to fight the former champion?
185.
Kamata: It’s…
Kamata: Because you’re weak!
Suguru: That’s…clearly wrong~~~
Kamata: This Hawaiian championship in the past had the youthful days of Superman, Batman, Spiderman, and had Ultraman and Kamen Rider from Japan. The tradition of the title is to be challenged by many superheroes. We can’t have the title be fought by Choujin we doubt the abilities of. Our reason here is to have them fight the former champion, allowing us to peer into their true power.
186.
Suguru: Tohoho…I, who am the world Choujin Olympic champion, why must I fight the attendant of the Hawaiian champion……
Meat: Ah…he lost his will and crawled into a hole……
Kamata: Isn’t that fine? You too are the attendant of Terryman.
Suguru: I am not Terryman’s attendant!!
Kamata: WA~~~he’s grown huge within the room---!!
Suguru: Ke…I’ll fight the attendant or anyone since I have no choice. But if I do, know that I will certainly fight the champion next.
Kamata: OK. However, don’t forget that you’re no good if you don’t win against Kamehame…
Voice: Aloha Mr. Kinnikuman.
187.
Suguru: OOH! HAWAIIAN CHAMPION JESSIE MALVIA!!
Malvia: I will fight you if you certainly win tonight’s match!
Malvia: I promise that my match with you will be a double title match!
Suguru: A dou…double title match is where we fight for my belt and your belt.
Meat: Prince, if you win, you’ll have a double-crown! Like Fujinami.
(TN: “Fujinami” is a reference to wrestler Tatsumi Fujinami)
188.
Suguru: Al—right!! I’ll certainly become the double-crown champion---!!
Kamata: As a reference, since the Kamehame fight, he's had the advantage of being a champion with 999 successful title defenses. He too is the boy of a royal family and is worshiped as a god……
Suguru: Ho—Well, my life from here will be the story told……
189.
Kamata: Well then, since they’re ultimately too strong, he’ll be disappointed in his warring opponents in Hawaii…He won’t be able to have a defense match here. Here is where Kamehame will reach out to the world. However, the world is large. He’ll be destroyed while watching the 1000th victory before his eyes...And at the same time, the father who follows him will kill himself and his mother will be shocked and commit suicide.
Kamata: Fufu…The Kinnikuman from here on will be hinted at his life…
Malvia: Fufufufu…
Malvia: HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA……
(End of Volume 4)
TN: I'm really a bit confused in my translation regarding the whole matter of Kamehame's defense of his title...when he's officially the former champion. If he had successfully defended it 999 times, then why is he a "former champion" and Jessie Malvia the current one? Sure I feel for the mustachoid Choujin who is essentially reduced to carrying around a massive sun in the sky for some gaudy bishonen hero, but the whole matter of the winning streak just never seemed to go anywhere. The only excuse I can think of is that Kamehame voluntarily stepped down, keeping his streak but allowing for the more youthful Malvia to become the champ. I doubt it makes that much sense but it's all I got. (later addition: Yeah I read a later translation: it's Malvia who has the defenses, not Kamehame...so I really can't say anything further about that, it was just a translation error due to some context that got lost on me) As for the chapter itself outside that nitpick: you really have to wonder about the dubious nature of the challenge that is going on here. Suguru is essentially the champ of a whole mass of Choujin and yet certain circles still don't trust him! It's really not his fault that he's stuck with fighting Kamehame with a slight potential of fighting Malvia later, but the means by which the promoter literally wants to ruin Suguru on his first post-Choujin Olympics match really just proves that maybe he isn't getting what he deserves. (but luckily it will work out...)
One more quick note: The four chapters after this are already translated, please read them before reading anything that I do next.
