SA 84 is titled "M·T". These just so happen to be the two initials of Mayumi Tanaka's name. Whether this is intended or not, I can't say. It's neat, nonetheless.

On page 125, Bikkuriman stickers are mentioned - three to be precise. They are a brand of collectible stickers from Japan. And it also has several anime series... creepy.

Marseille Butties are manufactured biscuits filled with cream (made of butter and white chocolate) and rum raisins. Their brand has been running for ages in Japan.

Istanbul is a real place in Turkey, and Iscandar is a fake place from a Japanese sci-fi cartoon series called "Star Blazers", or in Japan, "Space Battleship Yamato". Bobopatchnosuke then proceeds to use the "Wave Motion Gun", also from the 77-episode, 5-movie, series.
