The word I'm thinking of is hideous, even though that is Kojiro.
? "looking at the page in question" Does he mean he'll approach Musashi?
How about: "Either sword will do.". Because it's not that clear what's he talking about.

The literal is: "(I) destroy/smash the interval."
It means that whoever is going to make the distance between them much smaller. I read it as Musashi thinking that, but I could be wrong.
Edit: Bad translation, it should be something more about breaking a pause.
How about: "Break the lull." or something of that nature.
I guess, but the word 'sword' isn't in the Japanese. I also thought it was pretty clear when the previous sentence said short sword, and then the next picture had him using his regular katana.
Also, we're going to be taking a break is correct.
Yeah, I guess it's fine the way it is.
Thinking about it... "I will be the one who will break this stillness". How about this?
Yeah, I know. Leave it like that then.
How about simply: "I will break the stillness."
