週刊少年マガジン創刊から今年で５０周年なんだそう。　スゴイね。
weekly shonen magazine just celebrated their 50th anniversary. isnt that amazing?
自分が生まれるずっと前からこの雑誌はあるのだ。
i mean theyve been around longer than ive been alive.
ほんのちょっとでもその歴史に関わらせてもらえていることを嬉しゅく、
そして誇りに思います。
so to be able to contribute to that history makes me happy, and fills me with pride.
これからもも頑張っていこう。

全巻でも昭和４７年生まれと書いてから。　同年代の方からちょこちょこお手紙を頂くように
ないました。　ありがとうございます。　嬉しいです。
last volume i mentioned that i was born in showa year 47(1972).
after that i got many many letters from folks born in the same year. thanks you very much. im moved.
実は僕自身この仕事に腰を据えた（？）きっかけがありまして。　それは今から１０年位
前にテレビでやっていた「同年代」という番組。　確かＳＭＡＰｘＳＭＡＰの特番か何かで。
木村拓哉君が一般のいろいろな仕事をしてる人達と話をしていく、　というものでした。
to tell you the truth, i didnt have the confidence to pursue this carreer.
about 10 years ago, i saw this 「from the same generation」 tv program.
and i remember kimura takuya-kun from ＳＭＡＰｘＳＭＡＰ being on it talking about the jobs hes done, or something like that.
当時自分は新人賞とって連載にむけてネームを作ってた頃で。　漫画家目指してる人は
今からと思うんだけど　そのあまいの上手くいかなさに自分のやりたいこととか描きたい者を
だんだん見失っていっちゃうんだよね。　そうしてあがってるうちに賞とった頃の勢いが
失速していっちゃう。　ネーム考えるのサボったり　中途半端なネームのまま打ち合わせに
行ったり・・・。　や、　そうじゃない人もいるけど。　むしろ　そうじゃない人のほうが多いのかもしれないけど。。。。
そんなときにその番組の中でバスの運転手をやっている男性がすごく楽しそうに自分の
仕事を話しいて。　それを聞いていた木村君が「負けた」と言ったのです。
this was around the time i had won the rookie of the year award.
those of you that want to become mangakas, never lose sight of your goals, and keep on drawing whatever you want.
but when i got that award, i kind of got writers block.
i took so long thinking up a name, i just didnt want a half assed name...。
so, maybe im just not cut out for it. maybe only few a (genius)people are cut out for this...。
there was also a man that was a bus driver on the program, and he talked about his job so happily.
when kimura-kun heard the man talking like that, he exlaimed 「i lose」.
。。。全く同じことを思ってしまった。　バスの運転手さんだけではなく木村君を
含めその番組に出てたすべての人達にとてつもない敗北感を感じてしまったのです。
ただ　ただ　ひたすら悔しかった。　漫画家さんも出てたし。　。。。頑張ろうと思った。
その人達の中に自分が入っていっても外張れるくらいの仕事をしようっと。
...i thought the exact same thing. not just the bus driver or kimura-kun, but it felt like i lost to everybody on that program.
i was simply and honestly frustrated. there were also mangakas among them.
...lets do our best is what i thought.
it felt that i was an outsider looking in on those people.

なので、職種関係なく、同年代の人達が頑張ってる姿を見るのは　ものすごく励みに
なります。　なんか特別な感じ。　や、　年代達くもしいんだけどね。　嬉しくて悔しくなる。
。。。それがまた嬉しい。
and yet, seeing people my age, from different professions working so hard really encouraged me.
something like pride. well, the age part didnt matter much. i was so happy it made me frustrated.
...and then happy again.

まだまだ、　タメを張れるほどの仕事ができているかどうかは謎なんだけども。
どきればいつかあの運転手さんのバスに乗ってみたいと思っています。
but im not there yet, how somebody can keep doing the same thing over and over puzzles me.
but i think i would like to ride on that bus drivers bus one day.

weve had many guys ending up being dumped because they see them so little

ウチ　Ｇペンしか使わせ
ないんだよね
is this a maru pen?
we only use G pens
　ウチに入る以上
　絵柄とか合わせて
　もらわないと
you wont get to design stuff after you join
　　つか真逆だよね
or was it the opposite

使えるまでに
何年かかっかなーーー

言えなかった
i should have said 「yes」 right away

その圧倒的なオーラの
裏に　漫画の仕事の
スゴさを　垣間見て
しまったからだ
behind the overwhelming aura
i caught a glimpse of the amazingness of working in manga


その沈黙の
時間は
but my silence

この世界へ
飛び込む準備が
足りてないことの
証明でもあった
was proof that i wasnt ready to get into this world


なのに
藤沢先生は
and yet fujisawa-sensei

ま　技術なんつー
のは　練習すりゃ
上手くなるよ
well
youll get better with practice

でも大事なのは
それだけじゃねぇ
but that isnt the only thing thats important

正直　今でも
分からない
i still dont understand that

おごってもらっちゃった
he treated me


もしかしたら
それは
maybe he was just

同じ道を行く者への
ただの励ましだったの
かもしれない
encouraging somebody taking the same path as him


でも確かに
あの瞬間
but the truth is
at that moment

自分の漫画家としての
レールが繋がっていく
のを感じたのです
it felt that the rails of fate leading to the mangaka station connected

結局　意志の
弱さもあって
藤沢先生のアシを
断念したのだが
in the end
i was too weak willed
and gave up on being fujisawa-senseis assisstant

心の広い朝基まさし先生
（当時　サイコメトラー
ＥＩＪＩ連載）が
僕を拾ってくれました
but the most generous asaki masashi-sensei accepted me(psychometrer eiji was serializing those days)


朝基先生の職場は
皆　若かった
everybody was so young at asaki-senseis place
　ハタチちょっと
barely 20

オジサンが
入ってきた
an oldman joined

イジサン。。

２６歳で入った自分は
最年長で　これは結構
プレッシャーでした
at 26 i was by far the oldest
causing even more pressure


いざ仕事を
初めてみれば
何にも出来ず
when i first started up i couldnt do anything

ヘタ
sucks

遅い
slow

汚す
dirty


それでも遅刻だけは
しないように　毎日
早く言ってたのだが
but even so
i was never late

おはよう
ございますっ
good morning

あまり早く来られても
意外とメーワクだと
いうことを　作家に
なってから知った
but even so
the author knew the kind of trouble i was causing


最初のお給料日は
たまらず
then the first payday came

sorry

お金
いらないです
we're short on money

---endure


いいよ
これから頑張って
くれればいいから
dont worry about it
just do your best from now on

i wanted to cry

経とうとした

辞めました
but i quit after a year

辞めたのは
自分の漫画を
描くため
i quit to make my own manga

そして先生には
言えなかった
もう一つの理由
but there was another reason i didnt tell sensei

それは
アシスタントの
仕事が　楽しく
なってしまったから
and that was that i started to enjoy being an assisstant


もしかしたら　その言葉に
ギクリとする
アシスタントの人も
いるかもしれません
that might sound strange
especially if assisstants are reading this

好きな絵を描いて
過ごせる毎日は
この上なく楽しい
nothing is more enjoyable than getting to draw what you love everyday like that

こんな日々が続けば
いいなと　心のどこかで
思ってしまう自分が
怖くなってしまったの
です
but deep down
when i thought about continueing living like that
i got scared

そしてバウトを
しっつ作品を
仕上げ
so i started doing odd jobs to finish my masterpiece

日向建設
hinata construction

新人賞で
入選なんかを
頂いたりしました
and i was chosen as the rookie of the yaer


大変だったけど
一番充実していた
時期でもありました
it was hard
but very fulfilling

藤沢先生の言葉通り
自分が漫画家になって
いくのを　ひしひしと
感じていたからです
just like fujisawa-sensei said
if you want to become a mangaka
you will have to work beyond hard


でも　それは
大きな間違いで
but due to a huge mistake

このマガジンの
表紙は　本当に
衝撃的でした
this magazines cover is really fabulous

同期の上条昭美ね先生が
あっという間に新連載
そして大人気作家に
なってしまった
my contemporary kamijou akimine-sensei had just gotten published(serialized) and was very popular


実力の差を
痛感した
i realized the difference in skill

いまだフリーター（２８歳）
parttimer at the moment(28 years of age)

賞をとって
浮かれてる場合じゃない
闘いは　もう始まって
いるのだ
this wasnt the time to drown in my prize
the war had already started


ちなみに

もう一人
incidentally
another contemporary of mine

i feel something

i think being close to so many amazing authors

幸運だったんだと

１０年経って
but that was 10 years ago

僕は　作家の
立場になりました
and i made it as an author


５年連載しても
いまだペースは
摑めませんが。。。。
but even after 5 years of serialization
my pace is still the same....


朝基先生の所は
１年で１回しか
残業なかったよ
during my year with asaki-sensei
we never needed to do overtime

神っスね
he the man

と。。。
溶けますっ
ii...iits melting

仕事場の壁が
ガラスブロックの為
朝日が
ソーラーレイと化す
our office has a wall made glass blocks that
turns the morning sun into solar rays


藤沢先生の
あの一言が
なかったら
if its wasnt for that single word fujisawa-sensei said

原稿一本
あげると
もうほとんど
白髪状態
my hair nearly went white from just 1 manuscript

きっと　ここまで
辿り着けなかったと
思います
im sure i would never have made it here


スミマセン。。。。
あの。。オナカが
痛くてですね。。。。
excuse me....ermm..i think my stomach hurts....
　締切りを
　もう少しだけ延ばして
　頂けないかと。。。。
yeah
so cant you like extend the deadline a little....

ですから
そこをなんとか
cant you do something

実はアバラも
折れていて。。
and my ribs are broken too to be honest..

こんな作家には
ならないように
しよう
how did we end up with such a useless author

ただ　立派な
漫画家には　なれて
ないみたいです
unfortunately it doesnt seem i became that good of a mangaka

ココには書いてませんが和泉先生のきとで
アシスタントをやらせて頂ことも
ものすごく大きな勉強になりました。

i didnt write about izumi-sensei here, but i learned alot during my time as your assisstant.
