Saikou: Just like with the Jump in the last room,

I draw gag manga so I can get away with it, but pros use G-pens.

Shuujin: Is it really okay for me to look at them?
Saikou: Yeah.
I've still never once drawn with a dip pen.
Shuujin: This is my first time seeing a raw manuscript...
I... I thought the drawings were kinda crappy, but looking at it this way, it makes me worried if you can draw them or not, Saikou.
Saikou: I still have no self-confidence either.
Manuscripts are fine, but Shuujin, take a look at this, first.

Saikou: So this is a name......?
I actually have seen these in application pages for manga awards.
It looks like a manga under-sketch.
Saikou: First you draw this and show it to the editor, and if they give the OK then you can start making it into a manuscript. Until you get that OK, you'll keep having to redraw it.
Box: Editor
Saikou: Mostly, the ones for whom it's okay to just show a name is a mangaka whose talent has already been recognized.
So we should first to a fully completed manuscript before we send it or bring it into an editorial department.
Shuujin: Yeah, I know that much.......

Shuujin: Hey, Saikou, do you intend for me to do this much?
I can't just do it all text?
Saikou: Of course.
And although I'm giving you this as an example of a name, you can't just copy it either.
Uncle did a gag manga, so the panels were small. One page can't have 10 panels. And they're too simple.
Draw a name for the story you're writing. If you want to write an original story as just text, then become a novelist or join up with someone else.

Saikou: It's kinda early to be asking that, but
I kinda like manly manga.
And I hate otaku-ish and campy stuff.
Shuujin: Yeah, me too. I don't wanna do those either. Stuff like sex, rape, pregnancy, abortion are the worst.
Saikou: Those are things you'd find in Shoujo manga or crappy love novels...
And you can add "incurable diseases" to that list. And anything with tons of sobbing.
Shuujin: Ah, yeah. You're right.

Shuujin: So a manly manga, huh?----- What kind, specifically?
What's your favorite manga?
Saikou: "Ashita no Joe".
Shuujin: That's old...
But an incredible masterpiece.
I got into it from the re-airings of the anime and read it, too, it made me want to be a boxer.

Saikou: Sorry for having to talk about my uncle again, but Uncle once submitted for the Akatsuka award.
Shuujin: Oh, that's the gag award of the big two, right?
TL Note: The big two awards he refers to here are Shuueisha's Tezuka Award and the Akatsuka Award. The Tezuka award is for story manga.

unfortunately I don't think athletic series are doing that well.

Shuujin: Might just be how the times are now, but it's actually pretty amazing for a sports manga to do really well.

I said I liked "Joe" but I never said I'd want to do a sports manga.
But I have found a certain shared feature in popular manga.

and lots of other manga have katanas and swords show up in them.
There's also the shared features of having battles and it not being set in the real world.

Saikou: I don't think I want to put in katanas just because they're popular.
I've never noticed it before...... There certainly are a lot of them.
Shuujin: Nobody would notice it without analyzing it like that, so it's not really a matter of just noticing it or not.

I guess it's gotta be "Dragonball".
