(t/n - the pronunciation means 1,000 yen. So indeed, his other moves are a pun on money. His fire shot is "ichien-dama" which is a 1-yen coin. The author's poking fun at himself, I think...)

七歩蛇 - Shichihoda - it's a legendary pokemon, #256!
lit kanji-> seven/step/snake

Okay maybe not, but it's still one of those tall tales, like tsuchinko.
It's also called Shichifujya...actually that makes more sense to me, because that pronunciation sounds like 7 step curse. Anyway, it's said to be some kind of rainbow snake with 4 legs and is so poisonous that its trademark bite will kill you in seven steps.
Don't go near this pokemon.

I assume we'll get more on this next week.
Feel free to post some of your opinions/comments/or maybe info on this youkai folklore. I sure don't know much about these things.

Mystery question that I'll throw out to everyone--does anyone know the significance of Hakutaku? What's his character based on?
