Matahachi is left-handed?

Quote by Siedhr :

Prepare, not prepared.

Quote by Siedhr :
I like your original translation.

So do I, heh, but I'm not certain it's entirely accurate. It is as far as I can tell though.

Quote by Siedhr :
Was I not the winner?
I like victor instead of winner, (typo'ed it as victory).

Quote by Siedhr :

Matahachi is left-handed?

No, but a katana is, traditionally, two handed. And without the left hand, it is hard to swing a blade accurately.

Though I guess he could be left handed.

All fixed.

Actually, "prepared" was correct as Kurando was speaking in the past tense...I think

...but that's just a nit pick.

Thanks for the translation.

You don't foresee and then prepared. That just doesn't work in English. It sounds off, and that's because it's not correct. Foresee is present tense, so prepare would also be present tense. It doesn't matter that Kurando is speaking about something in the past, past tense simply would not work in this situation because it's talking about a possible/potential event.

"Did you foresaw that would happen and prepared for it?"

Notice how that sounds absolutely wrong?

Actually I agree with A-D-Dead. Cause "Did you foresee" is in past tense already (it's a question). If it weren't a question (getting rid of the did) it would be like this: "You foresaw this would happen and prepared for it". "Did you foresaw" is a gramatically incorrect structure.

I know it's grammatically incorrect, that's why I put it up there and said it was incorrect.

It's like saying, "Did you prepared?" It's the same thing. So no, prepared in that place is incorrect.

Sorry. Didn't mean to start a debate about it. Looking at it again, I see where the confusion set in...

Taken apart, the sentence would basically break down to "Did you forsee what would happen?" and "(Did you) prepare for it?"...one continuous thought with the "Did you" in parentheses being implied. Read this way, the 'Did you' converts both 'forsee' and 'prepare' into the past tense. However, the fact that the "did you" is only implied makes it sound strange if the person reading isn't on the same wavelength. For instance, if a reader were to interpret the line as "Did you forsee what would happen?", and "(You) prepared for it?", two distinct thoughts while using conversational grammar (which is almost never gramatically correct), the use of the present tense on "prepare" would seem strange.

But like I said, it was just a nitpick, and one I wasn't sure of to begin with. Sorry for needlessly kicking up dust.

Zindryr, for #1 I think "meet face-to-face" should be more than adequate. The word can often be used when competitors meet face-to-face, but it could also refer to any face-to-face meeting.

I thought that was what it was. I searched it in Google and found it used a lot when talking about people facing each other in a boxing/MMA fight thing. Thanks pocketmofo.
