Help preserve the world to ensure manga for tomorrow!
What if you were told you have only 10 more years to enjoy manga? Would you do something about it? Well a special project called "
HOME" is here to help spread the word of how the way we are living is killing our future. As the word "Helper" is in our name we want to help inform everyone of the HOME project and encourage everyone to watch and help share its message.
Here's a brief quote as to what it's about:
Quote:
We are living in exceptional times. Scientists tell us that we have 10 years to change the way we live, avert the depletion of natural resources and the catastrophic evolution of the Earth's climate.
The stakes are high for us and our children. Everyone should take part in the effort, and HOME has been conceived to take a message of mobilization out to every human being.
For this purpose, HOME needs to be free. A patron, the PPR Group, made this possible. EuropaCorp, the distributor, also pledged not to make any profit because Home is a non-profit film.
HOME has been made for you : share it! And act for the planet.

Help ensure our planet stays our HOME. Since what's a manga collection if you don't have anywhere to read it :(.
If you're a firefox user:
install Greasemonkey and then the YousableTubeFix userscript.
If you are using opera:
There's a YousableTubeFix for Opera Script. You can find a tutorial for using it here.
I don't know about similar ways for Safari/Chrome, but you might have luck searching for stuff like that.
Internet Explorer Users should switch browsers to one of the previously mentioned ones.
I didn't expect the link to be posted in the site. Instead I expect some manga- related videos here. ._.
Lucky for me, I'm a documentary lover. So yeah, I don't mind spending my time watching this video. But since its like 2am, I guess I will view it tomorrow afternoon then. >.>;
It's a great Documentary with great arguments and great imagery.
This Home project is a great way to show that we must start to care,
The effort put into this is unique.
And then releasing it free, world-wide on the same day in multiple formats (theater/cinema, dvd, internet, television)...
I'd certainly call this worth to be mentioned on any site out there.
The commentary is great and while pointing out our faults it also at the end shows the things we can do =) It's really great.
i mean wao this has impress me i tought no one care bout this world anymore since i do not see any1 doing crap to fix it, and actually 8 out off 10 people dont even care what goes around them, sad but truth, so props to whoever actually spend theyr time and effort on this, i hope this goes on every single house out there, we should do like akumetsu and just send it to all cellphones, tvs, theathers XD etc...
props to MH for promoting such a educational film, i really hope it fixes the world at least a tiny bit, i dont wanna be swiming to go to work XD

Some information in this video is assumed. That is to say the information is not proven and not cited from credible sources. Please, as reasonable people of the Manga Helpers community, do not take this passively. It's good to save paper and all - just don't be mindless twits who buy into this type of video without doing any actual research.
Solution?
Do some research. Google Scholar is your friend. A lot of info is out there beyond that, and I'd hope that people actually read the REAL science behind these videos.
You know, instead of just watching what someone slaps up on youtube and taking it in, hook line and sinker?
I'm not saying that this video is 100% wrong. But some parts are either controversial or just plain unknown at this point in time.
This is not the post of a spammer. This is the post of someone who is up to date with geological sciences. I'd like to help the world as much as the next person - I'd just like to make sure we're all on the same page while doing it.
Aside from that I highly doubt it would've gotten all those sponsors to donate money for a world-wide, same-day non-profit release if it were just 'something someone slapped up on youtube' and at the same time getting enough money to donate to renewable energy projects to make up for the fuel exhausted by the filming, you're right.
It's not necessarily proven that all of those effects wouldn't have come at some point in the future and that stuff like the suns emission cycles don't play a role in heating up the earth but what is true is that we humans are depleting resources created over millions of years, destroying the natural eco-system to create something that we like and that, if global warming like this was to come, we've at least sped it up.
I like to put it like this:
This destruction of the worlds ecosystem is a direct consequence of human population growing faster than we can implement a working, nature-neutral infrastructure to support this mass of humans. We have to think up and implement a new infrastructure globally and fast, but that won't work if people think in a capitalistic way since it'd require tons of work, tons of money with little to no monetary return. Add to that that humanity still fails hard at global projects due to politics and it's a real pipe dream.
I must say, while many are based on assumptions, that doesn't make it not true.
As ttxdragon point out, it might happen sometime some point in the future, maybe not in 10 years, but it might happen in 12-20 years.
And as for climate change, my country is having it as I type.
Where May is usually already a rainless month. We have rain almost everyday, even now in June!!
I believe that while there are countless evidences and reasons why we should preserve nature, if they are wrongly presented, they will move no one but a mere few.
This film presents those reasoning (while one may say it's only based on assumpstions/controversial materials) in a very moving/inspiring manner.
Let's face it, we wouldn't want to eat hospital foods because it tastes sucks, despite its nutrition content has been properly calibrated, but we'll eat tons of fast food 'cause it tastes good.
This film is like presenting hospital food with burger-delicious-taste. (I hope you get my analogy)
PS : It is superb for MH to post this
The world is fine, global warming is a joke. Since we've cooled more then warmed in the last 100 years.
Pfft liberals.
well....... better late than never. if we want to ensure our future, we must radically change us. we must stop overpopulation. we must stop capitalism, that is a poison that kills us slowly but sure.
HACK THE PLANET!
That's the selfishness of humans. Should make you think.
I'll just comment on the first sentiment.
True, this is a manga site, but there's nothing wrong in promoting something with a good cause. We promoted things like this before, like the Play To Donate Rice (UN stuff) before. We put up a bone marrow drive before too.
Call it a little bit of social obligation :)
While most scientists agree that climate change is happening and we should change the way we live soon to avert this, there is absolutely NO consensus on how long it will take for things to become "catastrophic" and/or irreversible. Some say 10 years, some say 50 years, some say 100 years, and most just say we just don't know yet. The is no hard dead line as to when we have to change. The main reason scientists say we should act now is because it's better to be safe then sorry since we don't know, not because if we don't act now we are all doomed.
To say we only have 10 years to change or else is just fear-mongering propaganda. Bringing attention to the environmental cause is fine, but don't out right lie to scare people into listening to you.
His books are awesome presents for parents and the movie is amazing.
And of course also something we should think about.
I really do think that if people realize how eveyrthing is linked. Nature, people, ego. The way people think and act, the way they live yes, it has an impact on earth, but it's not only a problem of environment.
The big problem is pride. This is what I think. Not to everybody, but, to those who still think in an individual way, don't want to change a little. It's kinda hard to explain. but this movie does it very well.
