Breaking: Body Confirmed As Shin-chan Author

News received in the last hour has confirmed what we have feared.

In the evening of September 20, Gunma prefectural police recovered the body that had been found at the base of a cliff face on Mount Arafune. The body has been formally identified by family as Yoshito Usui, author of popular series "Crayon Shin-chan" who had been missing since the 11th.

It is understood that Usui-san (51) was heading towards the mountain to go climbing and contact could not be made to him by family. On September 20, police recovered his body by helicopter. It arrived at Shimonita before 4:00pm. An inquest was held by police after his family confirmed that the body was that of Usui-san. Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Usui-san's death.

We will have more details in the following days, may Usui-san rest in peace.

man that's a sobering thing to read.
used to watch the dutch version of the series whenever i had the first two periods free before going to school.

the one who created one of the most popular Anime of all time is now gone....
this is truely sad.

i wonder whats going to happen to Shin-chan. is it going to continue by some other author, or just die?

I dunno why japanese ppl love hiking, with all the risks it conceives... I've lived in Japan and I've seen a lot of cases just like this one.
It's a shame someone as talented as Usui sensei has died. He made us all laugh with his mangas.

I only wish I had seen the original Shin-chan, rather than the bastardized one FUnimation made....

Either way, rest in peace Usui-san. May your work continue to bring memories to those you were able to touch, and those you won't be able to.

I always remembered Shin-chan as something that could be translated to anything, using the local dialect and pop culture anywhere- and still work just as good as the original Japanese. A truly unique and hilarious experience from a brilliant artist.
