IncarnateGene Simmons' son, Nick Simmons, surprises Bleach fans with his comic -
Incarnate. And by surprises I mean mostly piss off. One fan spotting some similarties to the Bleach manga sparked tons of fans gathering together and comparing scene by scene to show that Nick's latest manga is a far stretch from being original. (Compilation of the images
at the end of the article )
Fans then further took matters into their own hands and brought news of the event right to Kubo-sensei himself in which Kubo-sensei mentions on his twitter account:
Translation:
Quote:
12:07 - I've received tons of comments from fans overseas while I was sleeping stating that there is a manga in America that looks a lot like Bleach. I checked out the site that was all in English and not really knowing what it all said it appears that Gene Simmons' son Nick Simmons wrote a new manga.
12:08 - Quite frankly, more than whether it looks like it (bleach) or not, I'm more interested in the fact that Gene Simmons' son is a mangaka...
Incarnate's publisher has also
responded to the overwhelming power of fans to, well, support Kubo's best interests stating:
Quote:
Radical's response in regards to Incarnate:
We at Radical Publishing, Inc. and Radical Comics, Inc. are quite concerned to hear the news surrounding Nick Simmons’s Incarnate Comic Book. We are taking this matter seriously and making efforts now to contact the publishers of the works in question in an effort to resolve this matter. We have halted further production and distribution of the “Incarnate” comic book and trade paperback until the matter is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties. Rest assured that Radical is taking swift action regarding this matter and will continue in its efforts to maintain the integrity and protect the intellectual property of artists throughout the world whose creative works are the bedrock of our Company and the comic book industry.
I understand the desire to want to draw like your favorite author, but if you're going to make a manga/comic look *that* much alike, it's best to come to Japan during Comiket and sell your doujinshi ;).

Complication:
This Simmons fellow on the other hand..........................................................
I mean this gives a whole new meaning to the term blatant.
on the other hand kubo's answer was really polite
Plagiarism is a serious matter in every field.
Be it science, music , school or manga.
Nick Simmons is the son of an artist, so I wonder why he hasn't got any awareness on such a matter. Gene Simmons will be very disappoint.
Someone noticed Nana and Neuro.
Hey, you surely know, that D and Deidara have nothing in common. Moreover, Left Hand is an active character, and Deidara's hands are just part of his body. Surely, there're a lot of common trends in comics (like, protagonist in red cape - Trigun, Hellsing, Archer, Ergo Proxy, anyone wanna count?), and, BTW, I don't think, that this Simmons ripped Alucard's glasses like someone said in LJ, but on some pictures there's too much similarity...
As far as copies go, however, I'd say the art and coloring are pretty good.
"Artists do not copy, they steal"
Go get your own loser

Kubo's a pretty classy guy.
Sorry to say it Nick Simmons you are not a GOOD artist.
Merely because you copied incorrectly. ;P
I think the man dug his own grave just by doing this, he should learn from this and try that much harder to be more original in the future.
o .o
he ripped off bleach
What's this?...he ripoff from a DA artist too? Now that cross the line.
That's an interesting comment coming from a man that is being ripped off.
DO YOU KNOW WHO HIS FATHER IZ! HE WILL SUE THE INTERNETZ! FROM ENGLAND!!!!
He's on the same wavelength as all other artists...can a man die from bull**** poisoning?
I wouldn't complaint it much if he just copy some chara...
but he went to far with copy the scene...
honestly.. its kinda disapointed for someone who can draw comic pretty well...
I understand the fact he might likes the drawing style, or even the story line .. but the same scenes .. like 95% :/
Oh.. and not just any random scenes... like the most important part of the story >.>
Not only has this outcome reached the Bleach Manga author (Kubo Tite), it brought about a dramatic eruption to the fans. More like a comedic laughter.
I think this will just increase 'Nick Simmons' popularity when he publishes a new comic in the future. I doubt this will stain him or his father's reputation as everyone thinks it seems.
Heck, if I were Nick Simmons, I would be proud of myself! lol
that damn guy is so dumb, luh.
I think he's just trying to get attention and we just did it for him by going to his DeviantArt and getting Kubo's attention. But, whatever.
Others, however, look like a blatent rip-off... such as image #10. Apart from a few things like the scar, they're virtually identical.
(Yes, it's satire, don't worry.)
I think Nick Simmons used this tutorial to make Incarnate. *nod*
i never read Incarnate manga before, and now i'm going to search for it.. just curious.. lol
C'mon that publisher has been founded two or three years ago as independent label, and now everybody knows it, because a celebrity's son copied Bleach - just watch what they've been publishing so far. I don't say they did this on purpose - but it stinks to high heaven. At least it's good PR for Radical Comics whose parent company is named "Blatant Entertainment".
@TDA: Sure illegal is illegal - but that guy made money out of it.
"Like most artists I am inspired by work I admire. There are certain similarities between some of my work and the work of others. This was simply meant as an homage to artists I respect, and I definitely want to apologize to any Manga fans or fellow Manga artists who feel I went too far. My inspirations reflect the fact that certain fundamental imagery is common to all Manga. This is the nature of the medium. I am a big fan of Bleach, as well as other Manga titles. And I am certainly sorry if anyone was offended or upset by what they perceive to be the similarity between my work and the work of artists that I admire and who inspire me."

Looking at the overlays, it's obvious that Simmons did plagiarize but it's innocent till proven guilty here. Until this is settled in court, Simmons will very likely not admit to plagiarizing from Kubo.
This is huge and it's something that has to be addressed, not just with Kubo and Simmons but about art and plagiarism in general. Kubo or his representative in court should get a good lawyer who can express the anger that we all feel in our hearts to the jury and judge. And I do think Kubo should go to court on this.
Bleach is really a great mangá... one of the best in terms of draw, characters design and organization of the scenes. I can understand that someone use this work as a reference to do a totally original work... Like Hiro Mashima does with One Piece (XD don't shoot me!!!), but his works are really great and have its own identity!!
But it is exactlly the same as Tite Kubo's magificent work. It could not be accepted... I refuse to see him as an artist. ¬¬*
Retardness at its best.
