2 Teenagers Arrested for Stealing from K-ON! Model School 2 teenagers aged 17 and 18 stole guitars and other paraphernalia from the school that served as the real-life model off which the school in K-ON! was based. Police in Wakayama Prefecture arrested an 18-year-old male student of the prefectural High School and a 17-year-old unemployed youth for stealing guitars and other paraphernalia from the Toyosato Elementary School's old school building in Shiga Prefecture Toyosato City, which served as the real-life model for the school used in popular anime series "K-ON!".
The two are "K-ON!" fans, and said that they wanted to "steal K-ON! goods and things they could sell for money".
It is reported that the two entered the old school building in the early morning of the 17th of November. They stole 2 guitars, 1 bass, figurines of the K-ON! characters, 2 portable cash boxes (including the approximately ¥1,000,000 inside them). The guitars and bass were found on the 19th of the same month nearby.
The police had also arrested the 18-year-old and other juveniles in a youth gang for other cases of theft in the past. Upon finding the stolen figurines in the 18-year-old's house, they questioned him and he admitted to the crime.
"K-ON!" is a manga that portrays the band activities of a group of female high school students. It was adapted into an anime, and became very popular, the instruments that appear in it increasing rapidly in sales. The old school building of Toyosato Elementary is considered by fans to be the model off which the heroines' school is based, and has exhibits of guitars and other paraphernalia, all of which had been donated by fans.
