ONE PIECE More Popular with Adults than Kids
88% of people who buy One Piece manga are above 19; 13% are above 50 NHK's news program "Close Up on the Modern Times" did a special on Oda Eiichirou's hit manga "ONE PIECE" on the 9th of February, titled "Manga 'One Piece' - Secrets to being a Mega Hit". It aired at 19:30-19:56 hours.
The program talked about how ONE PIECE was well-loved by people of all ages, from young kids to adults. There are mothers who have become so passionate about the series, they're more into it than their kids. It appears there are even many salarymen who consider ONE PIECE such a precious treasure to them, it's like their bible for work. Umaba Nobuhiko from Konan Women's University Literature Department also makes an appearance, and analyzed from various angles the "strong bonds" between the characters of ONE PIECE who have continued to keep their firm hold on readers' hearts for years.
The show also revealed that of the people who buy the ONE PIECE volumes, only 12% are aged between 1 and 18 years of age. 43% are aged between 19 and 29, 32% are aged between 30 and 49, while those aged 50 and above made up and impressive 13%.

But it's good to know that good manga is making the news these days.
Molokidan make a very good point. I got to know OP for the first time when i was 14-15. Now i am already in my 20s. Same with Meitantei Conan where i first read it since i was 9 years old.
Also, "they're more into it than their kids", not "their", as well as "such a precious treasure to them", not "previous".
And I agree with Molokidan, but it also says something about the series that people who started reading it as kids are still sticking with it despite becoming adults.
There's also the possibility that these adults are buying the manga for their kids... But there was a survey in the past that placed OP as the #1 favourite manga for people of all ages and across both genders. I can't remember where I read that though.
Looking at the drastic rise in popularity of OP, I would think many of these people are actually new fans and not people who have simply been following since they were teens.
