Soccer Manga "Giant Killing" Mangaka Becomes Sponsor for JFL Machida 
Tsunamoto Masaya becomes sponsor of soccer team Machida Zelvia, becoming the first mangaka in Japanese history to sponsor a professional team. Original author of popular soccer manga "Giant Killing", Tsunamoto Masaya (37) became a sponsor for the Japan Football League (JFL) soccer team Machida Zelvia. This is the first time in Japanese history that a mangaka has become a sponsor for any professional soccer teams.
Last season, Machida was unable to make it into J. League Division 2 despite making it to 3rd place within JFL (the top 4 teams enter J. League Division 2) due to some problems with the fact that its stadium was not large enough to sit the minimum number of people required for J. League Division 2. Tsunamoto said of Machida, "They're a small club, but they're doing their best." At Machida's home stadium Nozuta Stadium, posters of another of Tsunamoto's currently ongoing manga, "Speedy Wonder" can be seen adorning the advertisement boards. An agreement has already been met with the club, but there will be a formal ceremony soon for the signing of the contract. Furthermore, Tsunamoto bought 18 of the seats in the stadium with the intention of inviting more supporters for them. Tsunamoto, an avid fan of both soccer and horse racing, wrote horse racing forecasts for Sponichi Annex during the G1 Series last Autumn.
