Anime "Dennou Coil" Released on iPhone/iPod touch App is free but users must pay for individual episodes (¥450) of anime by Madhouse and Evangelion staff. Anime World released a new title, "Dennou Coil" (Electronic Brain Coil) on the anime distribution service app for iPhones and iPod touches on the 19th of February. The name of the application is "Dennou Coil Download Version". The app itself is free, but users have to purchase episodes 1-26 within the app. Each episode costs ¥450 (55% opening discount), and there are no free episodes bundled with the app.
Distribution is done via downloading, but there are plans for a streaming version in time to come. There are also plans to have the full series available as a pack in the streaming version.
Users can not only watch the series, but may also make use of interactive features. For example, using the built-in special feature "Ani Reco♪", one can make their own voice the character's voice. By selecting that function, a special scene will appear and the dialogue will appear as text on the screen. Users can then speak into their iPhones or mikes on their iPod touches to do the dubbing. After that, they can have fun playing back their recording.
"Dennou Coil" is created, directed and written by Iso Mitsuo, who worked on various Ghibli works as well as "Evangelion" and "Rahxephon", and was broadcast on the NHK Education Channel in 2007. The character designs were done by Honda Takeshi, who had done the opening and original artwork for "Evangelion". The animation is handled by Madhouse.
