Here you will find a run down of today's anime and manga news! If anything sent waves through the anime and manga world today, you'll find it in this post! By the way, I'm saladesu, one of the translators and global moderators of MH, and I'll be posting a post like this every day (as much as possible, anyway). Look forward to them ;)

Survey: 30% of Chinese Spend More than 1-2 Hours Watching Anime Daily

6% spend more than 3 hours watching anime daily, indicating large number of anime enthusiasts in China.

A survey conducted on the Chinese on their anime and manga habits, asking the question, "How many hours do you spend watching anime?" Surprisingly, nearly 30% of respondents replied that they watched "more than 1-2 hours a day", testifying to the immense popularity of Japanese anime in China. There were 3000 respondents and the survey was conducted in April 2011 by Searchina.

Here is a more detailed breakdown of the response:
  • More than 1-2 hours a day ... 29.4%
  • 1-2 hours every 2 days ... 12.3%
  • 1-2 hours every 3 days ... 7.8%
  • 1-2 hours every 5 days ... 4.5%
  • 1-2 hours every week ... 16%
  • 1-2 hours every 10 days ... 3.9%
  • 1-2 hours every 2 weeks ... 9.7%
  • Less than 1-2 hours every 2 weeks ... 16.3%

Although nearly 30% of respondents watch "more than 1-2 hours a day", it was also surprising that 1.6% of all respondents watched "more than 5 hours a day" and 4.7% "3-5 hours a day". These could be considered anime otaku, and they made up a sizeable 6% of the respondents. This being an internet survey, it is likely that the results are slightly skewed due to the fact that more respondents would be exposed to watching videos on the internet. Nevertheless, the numbers still show that Japanese anime is considerably popular in China.
