Detroit Metal City's Wakasugi to Launch Kappei Manga This year's 10th issue of Hakusensha's Young Animal magazine is announcing on Friday that Detroit Metal City creator Kiminori Wakasugi will launch a new comedy manga series called Kappei in the next issue on May 27. According to the tongue-in-cheek advertising, "when the times need him the least, a hero will appear!!"
Wakasugi launched Detroit Metal City in the same magazine in 2005, and he ended the series in April of last year. Viz Media is publishing the ninth of 10 volumes in North America next month. Viz Pictures (now renamed as New People) released Toshio Li's live-action film adaptation with Ken'ichi Matsuyama (Gantz, Death Note, NANA) in the lead role. Studio 4°C produced an animated video series. Wakasugi also launched his Minna! ESPer Da yo! manga in Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine in 2009.
