Haruhi Manga Redrawn by Chinese Mangaka for Chinese Market In a bid to circumvent strict Chinese regulations, Haruhi is first novel to be specially adapted by a Chinese mangaka into a manga specially for the Chinese market.
China, famous for restricting the publication of foreign manga, has allowed the production of manga adaptations of Japanese novels, but with a twist. For the first time, Japanese publishing giant Kadokawa Shoten has published the manga adaptation of the popular light novel "Suzumiya Haruhi", but with a Chinese artist at the helm.
The manga is a collaboration between Kadokawa Shoten and the Chinese publisher. In China, the publication of translated foreign manga is heavily regulated by the government in order to protect their domestic market. In view of this, this time, the popular light novel series, "Suzumiya Haruhi", which had also been turned into an anime, was adapted into a manga for Chinese audiences by a Chinese mangaka. When the manga went on sale in the Chinese province of Guangzhou, youngsters flocked to the bookstore to get a copy.
This is the first time such a publishing method has been used to circumvent the strict Chinese regulations. Yoshida Saori, one of the chief editors, commented, "This is also a counter-measure against pirates who violate the intellectual property rights of mangaka. We also want to expand into the vast Chinese market."original source
Cruel Angel's Thesis Most Played Song in Japan 16-year-old theme song from popular "Evangelion" anime is most played song in Japan for 2010.
The song that was most played in broadcasts and sung at karaoke and overall the most played song in Japan last year, is a 16-year-old anime theme song. It is the first time an anime theme song has taken this accolade, perhaps owing to the fact that the song is being used as a pachinko BGM.
JASRAC tabulated the scores for all songs and how often they were played, used in games or sung at karaoke. This time the winner was popular anime "Neon Genesis Evangelion" theme song "Cruel Angel's Thesis". The anime aired in 1995 and in just last year alone, the royalties the song grossed amounted to an astonishing ¥106.56 billion. Despite this mind-boggling number, it is actually ¥2.9 billion less than last year due to the fact that CD sales etc have been on the decline.original source
