Three Youths Arrested for Shoplifting Manga
Suspects even sold manga back to same shop as secondhand books to get money.
Three people were arrested on the 3rd for shoplifting 35 volumes of manga from a bookstore in Mihamachou. Two of them were minors, aged 17 and 18, while the third was a 20-year-old man working part-time at an intensive-care old folks' home.
According to investigators, the suspects said, "we also shoplifted a couple of hundred other volumes of manga," a claim the police are now searching for evidence to corroborate.
The 35 volumes of manga were worth 19,000 yen in total, and the shoplifting incident took place on the 28th of April. The three accomplices had gathered the manga into shopping bags they had brought with them at an area which they knew fell into the blind spot of the security cameras, before absconding. After this, they brought the manga back to the shop, which purchases secondhand books, to exchange for cash.
This shoplifting incident only came to light only when the 17-year-old boy and 18-year-old girl were caught shoplifting elsewhere last month.
All three admitted to the crime.
