Animanga in the News: 6/23/11

Here you will find a run down of today's anime and manga news! If anything sent waves through the anime and manga world today, you'll find it in this post! Replicas of Oda Eiichirou's "ONE PIECE" protagonist Luffy's straw hat are going on sale at ¥4980 (USD62). The title of the line is "Luffy's Strawhat ~To the Top of the Pirate Hierarchy~", which continues from the earlier "Luffy's Strawhat ~The Hat of Promise with Shanks~" that used the younger Luffy as the image. This time, it uses the Luffy that had already become the captain of the Strawhats and met Ace at Alabasta. Each hat is a classical straw hat, handmade by the well-established "Tanaka Hat Shop".

Because of the link to his meeting with Ace, replicas of Ace's vivre card were also made by free-lance washi (Japanese paper) makers. These papers are not cut by machines but individually by hand.

One can order these products via the Premium Bandai site, which opens orders until the 22nd of July. They will then randomly select a few people who ordered the products, and only they will receive the items.

For those who might fancy an umbrella instead, why not consider an umbrella made to look like Zoro's Wadou Ichimonji sword? These have gone on sale since the 20th of June, at the sky-high price of ¥8800 (USD109). The umbrella is embossed with 6 different motifs. The underside of the umbrella depicts the Grand Line and the handle of the umbrella has a green ball (representing Zoro's head) and Zoro's earrings hanging from it. The green ball and earrings can be removed and used as a cell phone strap if preferred.
