"Belmondo" Mangaka Receives Boiled Egg Newcomer Prize for Novel Shounen Jump Mangaka Ishioka's novel "Hakuba ni Norareta Ouji-sama" goes on sale in summer 2011 after winning Boiled Egg Newcomer Prize. A literary prize aimed at uncovering new talents in the field of literature, the Boiled Egg Newcomer Prize (novel category), was awarded to a 36-year-old male mangaka living in Nanto City.
This year, 74 entries were submitted for the Prize. The winner was the novel "Hakuba ni Norareta Ouji-sama" by 36-year-old mangaka Ishioka Shouei, who lives in Nanto City.
It is a romantic adventure and fantasy novel about the female protagonist, Mizuki, and the prince and white horse that appears in her dreams but later appear in the real world.
Ishioka had been a broadcast reporter and director for 11 years before changing career paths and becoming a mangaka. He was serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump with the series "Belmondo Le VisiteuR". However, due to impeded blood flow to his brain, he fell ill and is now exploring writing instead as he rests in his home in Takase, Nanto City.
On receiving the prize, Ishioka said, "The sense of relief I felt when a novel of mine was acknowledged even as I struggle with the anxiety of being unable to draw manga is the best."
"Hakuba ni Norareta Ouji-sama" will be published and available in bookstores nationwide in summer 2011, under the pen name of Ishioka Rui.
