At the beginning of the 20th century American Doctor, Duncan MacDonald, engaged in a series of unethical experiments. Those experiments concluded that should one suffer a death not ordained by fate the human body lightened by an average of 30 grams, the weight of the a man's soul stone.
Today, two men, Sakarai and Amano, are in the hunt to find people who are about to die before their time and either prevent their unnatural death or recover these stones, "Livingstones."
Thanks go to Unproductive for the teaser.McDougall conducted an experiment in 1907 where chronic TB patients were weighed prior to death. Inexplicably, he found in one experiment that a patient lost ~30g of weight upon expiring. And such is the basis of the protagonists' work: to extract the soul, or "livingstone," of people whose lives have been "tainted" by "negative points." When a person dies an unfortunate death, their livingstone is chipped, leaving fragments that eventually corrode other living beings. If a person is exposed for too long to a negative point, their livingstone in turn corrodes, potentially threatening his or her chances for the afterlife. Before that can happen, their livingstone must be extracted...but at what cost...?

Note to all scanlators: If you recently started scanlating a new manga series (with about 5 or less chapters released) that's hosted on MangaHelpers, and would like your manga to be shouted out in the next New Manga Shout Out, then please PM me. Please include:
- The name of the manga series
- A summary of the series
- Publishing Status (+ Number of Volumes/Chapters)
This week I'm looking forward to seeing almost all of the items in this shout-out getting scanlated, but my top 3 picks would probably be
Livingstone ( a bit dark and weird but interesting),
Inu x Boku Secret Service (reminds me of a mix of
Kurenai and
Mei-chan no Shitsuji), and
Chotto Edo Made (since I also want to see how TSUDA Masami's new manga fares), although I know
Canaan is probably going to be a top pick due to the anime version currently being aired, although I haven't checked it out yet.
In scanlating news: people finally scanlated
Gisèle Alain,
Natsu no Zenjitsu and
Usotsuki Paradox so go check out those chapters if you haven't done so already although
Planet Waves is being neglected. If you're looking for something to scanlate, new translator
RasberryIcecream translated
Seitokai Yakuin-domo and previous shout-outs
Himawari and
Touhou Sangetsusei.
The one I liked the most is Livingstone. I love dark/twisted/weird stuff~ I'm glad there's a translation out and a group's picking it xD

About Planet Waves, it's a good manga. I like it a lot! I hope it gets scanlated soon xD It was pretty tough to read it through translation + raw because of so many text O_O Ehehe. . .
!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chotto Edo Made - I don't know the mangaka's other work, but I like stuff with a historical setting, so I think I'll check it out.
Hitohira Encore: Read the first chapter, I think it could turn out to be interesting.
Inu x Boku Secret Service: I've read a little of the first chapter, looks cool so far.
Livingstone: This is my favourite from the shoutout. From the first chapter it looks pretty awesome.
Nobunaga: I read the description on the manga page and it sounds like fun!
You know I'm a junkie and you keep waving what I'm craving in my face... No, I don't want to go back to AA... Hopefully someone else picks it up so my drive to do it will die out... someone... please? (c;
I've been chatting with RaspberryIcecream about working on Seitokai Yakuin-domo and hope to be starting in on it shortly. So this series should start being released soon =)

Yeah, but Livingstone is probably the most interesting to me of the sort.
And yeah, they did put a note saying it was 21 grams. I don't think it was a copyright issue tho. It would be one thing if they named the series "21 grams," but you can't copyright a measurement value... Can you? :o
@himemo: lol - I knew you'd like the hitohira manga :P
@ doragon: yeah, I finished the article super late at night and I guess I was too tired to check, but it's been fixed now.
@shadow-skill: you know you want to~ It's calling out for you to translate~~~ :P And I love torturing people, especially you since you're so fun to torture. ^_^
@ggpx: oh yay~ it's great that your group picked it up. I'll definitely look forward to reading your scanlations. :)
@Unproductive/shrimpy: Thanks go to the both of you for the teaser/summary.
Oh, and can someone please explain this 21 gram reference you guys talk about. I have no clue what you guys are referring to. -___- What's the controversy of the 30g vs 21gram? Please enlighten me oh wise ones~
21 grams vs 30 grams, there's no real discrepancy here since both get mentioned. I just skimmed over it too fast and didn't even see the * that mentions that it's about 21 grams. 21 grams just also happens to be the name of a film that came out some years ago. Livingstone plays with the concept in a more direct matter, but the film also touched upon some similar themes. It basically just has to do with the "experiment" that was done that is mentioned in Livingstone. I just sort of wonder where they're getting an average of 30g from when most places don't even mention this.
McDougall first found 21g, but it is clearly explained in the chapter (and in wikipedia) that successive experiments found 30.
...I hope people aren't taking what comics say as gospel...
T.T
Or he's a different person with the same name and surname (at least, in the way the are drawn with western characters)?
