New Manga Shout Out: 1/2/12 - 1/8/12

Welcome to the next New Manga Shout Out. With the no-raws/scans rule on MH, you have to work a bit to find these mangas. In the future, Nikola Tesla's dream of a 'World System' of electricity is realized. Cords and batteries are a thing of the past, and now people can directly draw energy using devices known as 'coils.' Some people, however, modify these coils for destructive purposes. Mabuchi Kyoma, a man who lives in ruins and has a passion for 'vintage' gas-powered cars, has good reason to know what damage these coils can do. He takes on assignments from a large woman known as Marie, recovering illegal coils in exchange for cash and gasoline.

One day, he goes out on one of his usual missions, to retrieve illegal coils from two criminal brothers, Jony and Every Won. When he gets to their gang's hideout, however, there is another stranger there: a mysterious, cloaked captive that appears to be a young lady. Who is she and will this meeting change Kyoma's life?

The patients develop supernatural and superhuman abilities that cause major harm or death to those around them. Only a handful of people know of this phenomenon and even fewer people have the ability to stop the illness that turns dangerous fantasies into horrific realities.

This is a wild school life comedy that jumps between the circumstances of various characters. One of these is Magaribuchi, a kid who punched his friend on a whim once... and the punching didn't stop until he was the boss delinquent of the school. His tough-guy persona is severely threatened by his first encounter with 'Moe' art. Another is the 27-year-old single teacher, Akemi. Years ago, she was a magic girl, fighting to defend her elementary school from monsters. Now, she tries to do the best she can with what she has left. There's also the three soldiers of 'earthly pleasures' whose 'power' is bound up in their particular vice (lust and sloth, for instance). These and many more characters, like the cyborg teacher, go through the crazy adventure that is their everyday school life.

Nanase’s high school baseball team missed going to the nationals by one heartbreaking game during his 2nd year in school. Now as a 3rd year and team captain, he sees that the team is nothing compared to last year. The all star starters from last year have graduated and Nanase is left with unskilled and, more importantly, unmotivated players that have no shot at making the nationals. That is when Mr. Toku, an old man in the neighborhood who has watched every practice and every game the school has ever played for the past few decades, secretly entrusts Nanase with $100,000. Mr. Toku wants Nanase to use the money however he wants to ensure the team makes it to the nationals. But that large of an untraceable fund is too big of a responsibility for a high school teenager and even a goodhearted kid like Nanase might fall into its temptation.

With the space program attempting to travel to Mars, 21st century scientists were tasked with warming up the planet so that humans could survive on its surface. They came up with an efficient and cost effective plan of sending cockroaches and mold to the surface so that the mold would absorb the sunlight and the insect corpses would serve as a food source for the mold.

It is now the year 2577 and the first manned ship to Mars has landed on the planet and the six crew members are ready for their mission. But what they find are giant mutated humanoid cockroaches with incredible physical strength. The crew members are easily wiped out, but not before sending a transmission back to Earth. Now, humanity will send elite warriors to exterminate the mutated bugs and claim back Mars.

I only read one chapter of Dimension W, so I think it could either be a cool SF story or just another battle manga. It really depends on where they go from here, but the first chapter was pretty interesting. Nounai Poison Berry was a neat approach to romance... having a council of people over-analyzing every step of the way. Dogesen was a really bizarre idea, but I guess it promotes (in an extreme way) that sometimes the best way to achieve something is not to care about losing face. Get Wild was pretty funny, in a ridiculous way. Hanamote Katare seemed like a really sweet story, about a very shy, good-natured girl.

Terraformars - Read the first chapter now. It's frecking amazing. How the mood of the story changes 180 degrees is simply amazing. From heartwarming to just pure fear. I am really looking forward to reading more of this series.

Sanada Juyuushi - Action series with ninjas? Yes please. It will be super interesting to see who Sarutobi fights against and recruits into the team.
My opinion:
Suna no Eikan sort of sounds interesting. Don't know how a kid would deal with being offered $100k, but I'd be willing to check it out~ LOL at Terra Formars. I knew cockroaches were up to no good + they can survive anything... Sounds like a good start/concept. Since everyone dies in chapter 1, I wonder what will happen to the next batch of people sent to Mars...
