New Manga Shout Out: 6/4/12 - 6/10/12

Welcome to the next New Manga Shout Out. With the no-raws/scans rule on MH, you have to work a bit to find these mangas. When he woke up, he was in an unknown world and was met by a lady warrior, Yuno Argracia, who was in search of the “Sword of Light” that could cleanse the soul of girls who have become “demonics.” This sword is in Kansuke’s possession, but it's in the form of his penis, which requires him to have sex with the “demonics” in order to cleanse them. Manaka Shiro is a woman with the amazing physical ability as a runner, but she spends all her energy working part-time jobs. He manages to recruit Shiro as a runner, but they still must figure out what to do about the other relay runners. Will the group be able to pull together and win this relay?

Sakuraba Kota is a pretty ordinary student and a member of the news club. One day, while he's looking into some recent incidents for his club, he runs into an enormous, dangerous creature. He learns that it is one of the powerful beasts that causes disasters and grows by eating the souls of the people they attack. Luckily, he is rescued by two "Contractors," people who form a contract to use one of the 4 god powers: Fire, Water, Wind and Earth. The two contractors are Suzaku Mikoto, a hotheaded fire wielder of an established contractor family, and Byakko Yuna, a pretty female wind wielder who follows Mikoto.

The next day, he learns he hasn't seen the last of Mikoto and Yuna-- Mikoto is a new transfer student in his class, and Yuna is his class's new assistant teacher. Life is about to get more dangerous and exciting as Kota finds himself caught up in Mikoto and Yuna's fight to protect people from these dangerous beasts!

Agano Kokage is the oldest daughter in a 'ghost family.' Her family is supposedly half-spirit and half-human, and Kokage inherits the family's powers on the day she turns 14. She can now see ghosts, along with other abilities, which her mostly ineffectual grandmother's ghost attempts to teach her about. Long ago, her ancestors were able to travel freely between the physical and spirit world, but Kokage's grandmother's ghost tells her that if she allows herself to shift into a spirit, she can never come back to life.

However, Kokage proves her grandmother wrong, when her childhood friend (and possibly crush), Toshiaki, successfully pulls her back into the physical world after she accidentally becomes a ghost. Kokage's ability attracts her another mentor, a highly skilled 'ghost family' woman called Shiine. Now Kokage faces a daily struggle to develop and learn how to control her abilities, and to deal with all the complications of middle school life, such as her confusing relationship with Toshiaki.

They're known as “Sex Industry Managers.” In the Sex Industry, there are all kinds of businesses, such as love hotels, Image clubs, and no-panties shows.

One such business is the massage parlor “Swan of the Lake,” run by a man who rose from a mere employer to an exquisite manager. A massage parlor is a location of light prostitution, usually disguised as a common parlor, such as a spa or sauna. But, as many may know, the life of a prostitute does not blossom with the flowers of joy and bliss. In this story, under the narration of the manager, you get to follow each prostitute and understand what true hardships each of them face, whether it is a social conflict with one’s workplace or an emotional trauma with a past boyfriend

After graduation, doctor-in-training Sugisaka Nanako is starting her residency, along with a group of her classmates. They are all in that awkward period where they have their degrees, but they don't yet have enough experience to be really useful around the hospital. Nanako also has to deal with people underestimating her (or even refusing to accept that she is a doctor!), due to her age, gender and physical attractiveness. Nanako and the others observe their assigned mentor doctors, and begin to shed their inexperience by performing tasks under supervision. They will work hard to become the best doctors they can be!

The story takes place in 1883, in the Meiji era of Japan. Kurahashi Shizume is from a family known for its involvement in mystical arts, and she suffers from a sleepwalking sickness. Her father used to help her deal with it, but now her father has gone missing. Now Shizume periodically falls asleep and wakes up somewhere else, after having some disturbing dreams. In her attempt to find her father, she meets Inui Kogenta. Kogenta has skills like a ninja, but he insists that he is actually a spy. Kogenta is in the middle of investigating a string of deaths that some attribute to a spirit, and he's looking for Shizume's father in connection to the case. When Kogenta witnesses Shizume's "sleepwalking sickness" in action, he is able to tell her that her violent dreams are actually real. Now the two of them will try to figure out Shizume's strange ability and track down her missing father.

This is what tethysdust said this week:
Tsukumo Nemuru Shizume was my favorite this week. The art was nice, and I liked the juxtaposition of the late 1800s and the supernatural. Contractor M & Y was a high energy shounen. Kui Tan was pretty funny, and I thought it was kind of neat how they worked food into the solving of mysteries.
Now for Midori-Mori's take on his manga:
Though I don't think this will have much importance to you readers, but I'm a new 'shouter' for these manga shout-outs. I was truly surprised by the series I was able to read about for this shout-out.

Yet, even with all the surprises, I was able to find interest in them all. The one I might recommend the most would probably be Fuuzoku Tenchou Monogatari. Though I can't gurantee its artwork 100%, the way how it portrays each of the girls' hardships absorbed my attention with all its mature dialogue and seriousness. But if you're searching for the more humorous type of 'mature' series, Blade Play may be your pick.
My opinion:
I'm slightly interested in seeing how they incorporate food and solving a mystery in Kui Tan. I'm also curious as to how Shizume's dreams in Tsukumo Nemuru Shizume are related to her father's disappearance and what she does while she dreams.
