New Manga Shout Out: 7/2/12 - 7/8/12

Welcome to the next New Manga Shout Out. With the no-raws/scans rule on MH, you have to work a bit to find these mangas. The Comp is a popular portable game system that also functions as a smartphone. But it suddenly becomes a portal for demons to travel to the human world! Kazuya receives three Comps, from his master programmer cousin Naoya, for himself and his two friends Atsuro and Yuzu. In order to survive the demon invasion, the trio have to use the Comps to summon and subdue the demon that appears in order to fight back against the waves of demons that are about to swarm Japan!

In the near future, aliens from Bluto “invade” the Earth. But what is their objective? To steal all of the timed sale groceries at rush hour and make perverted havoc among the citizens. Not the kind of aliens you would find every day. To counteract this “terrifying” enemy, a special force of heroes, “The First Star Heroes,” has been sent out wearing dynamic colors. But, out of the five heroes, two of them have a secret. Momose Kaname, a 14 year old boy who has idolized these heroes, is transformed into the team’s Pink Hero and now has to hide his identity. And “he” finds out that the Red Hero of the team is actually a girl who has experienced the same gender-bending transformation as Kaname. What will happen to these Heroes, especially Kaname, as they face all kinds of odds during their “heroic” days?

Sasakura Ryuu is a college student who also writes a particularly bloody series of light novels. One day, he meets a mysterious young fan with the name of one of his characters, "Mikato." Since Mikato is one of the characters Ryuu is planning to kill off in his next novel, this raises some questions about what, if any, responsibility Ryuu has towards his fans and what they might take away from his work. These questions only grow worse when murders begin to occur that blatantly copy specific events in his novels. What's more, a "fan" that may be behind the murders begins sending him disturbing photo texts...

In response to a decrease in population, human corpses have become a major resource for society's labor pool. Necromancers are needed to animate corpses for various jobs. These corpses work reliably unless they encounter human love, at which point they go berserk and attack. Zen is the necromancer of his city, and he spends his time animating corpses and dealing with the messy aftermath of those cases of 'necrophilia.'

Zen has a strange assistant, who keeps his face covered and never speaks in public. This assistant is Yomai, a ghoul that Zen took under his wing. Zen allows Yomai to feed from his own flesh, but he has strictly forbidden the ghoul from revealing himself to, speaking to, or eating other humans. Yomai doesn't want to anger his benefactor, but he is not completely satisfied living under all of Zen's restrictions. There's plenty of violence, death, and surprises ahead for the necromancer and his ghoul!

Ichijo Kazuya thought that he was murdered, but when he came to, he was back in his high school days. Taken back 15 years into his past, it seems that he has been given a second chance at life and given a chance to make different choices. He decides that the way to prevent his eventual demise is to make sure Masaki is more successful with girls and loses his virginity before Kazuya. But fate seems to be steering Kazuya towards the path of his previous life and keeps introducing the same girls he had sexual encounters with.

This series is related to the Read or Die series. It takes place in a world where the last printing press has shut down, and books as objects are declared dead. However, some people still love books, and they have formed their own community of Bibliopolis, where the worlds' remaining books are lovingly collected and stored. In Bibliopolis is Yomiko, a paper master (she can manipulate paper), who is driven to read (and kill) all of the books in the world.

The Kirionira are the demons that live in another dimension and invade the human world through their dreams. The only defense humanity has against the demonic assault are the hunters who rely on their sex drive as a source of power to fight against them. Riku Yoichi came from a long line of hunters and had high amounts of sexual energy which allowed him to be a great hunter. He moved away from his home town after middle school to demolish the Kirionira and was successful in finishing off the king and ending the battle forever. However, the peace came at the price of Yoichi losing his sex mojo. Returning back to his home town, he soon learns that the demon invasion was not over, but without his sex drive, he is helpless to fight back. He tries convincing his childhood friend Namba Midori and her female classmates to get him sexually aroused, but they want nothing to do with it.

Piano prodigy Arima Kosei dominated the competition and all child musicians knew his name. But after his mother, who was also his instructor, passed away, he had a mental breakdown while performing at a recital that resulted in him no longer being able to hear the sound of his piano even though his hearing was perfectly fine. Even two years later, Kosei hasn’t touched the piano and views the world in monotone, and without any flair or color. He was content at living out his life with his good friends Tsubaki and Watari until, one day, a girl changed everything. Miyazono Kaori is a pretty, free spirited violinist whose playing style reflects her personality. Kaori helps Kosei return to the music world and show that it should be free and mold breaking unlike the structured and rigid style Kosei was used to.

Mukuro Chandelier was the most interesting, though it was really violent. It seemed like an interesting new take on zombies. R.O.D. is another one related to an existing series. I haven't read any of the other R.O.D. stuff, but I've heard this series is darker than usual.
Here's what vyc had to say:
Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso - Coming of age type storyline. Artwork is fantastic and I loved everything about it especially the storytelling from multiple character's perspective.

Ore ga Doutei o Sutetara Shinu Ken ni Tsuite - mystery series were the murdered playboy character is given a second chance in life starting at high school to change his course of life. Comedy/sexy storyline with drama added to it. I really enjoyed how the story started and picked up really fast. I liked the overall plot line and it got me interested really fast.
Now for Midori-Mori's take on his manga:
Another week of fine reads. Hero no Himitsu is a nice "Magic Sentai" series, which makes me feel a bit nostalgic of the ones I read in the long past, if we don't include the ecchi part that is. As for Owa-Rande, though its summary may not be much, it's recommended, as the story is so hard to describe without reading the actual series. Give a chance to both, fans of manga ^.^

My opinion:
This week has some pretty interesting series. Light Novel sounds pretty interesting, although it vaguely reminds me of another series that I can't remember the name of... It's funny that love is what makes zombies go berserk in Mukuro Chandelier. Going back into the past so one doesn't get murdered in Ore ga Doutei o Sutetara Shinu Ken ni Tsuite makes for an interesting premise, although I hope it's not all temptation/ecchi fanservice in this series... I've never read any of the R.O.D. series nor watched the anime, but I've always heard great things about it and if it's getting darker as R.O.D - Rehabilitation is supposed to go, then I might want to check it out. Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso sounds like a cute series to pick up as well.
