New Manga Shout Out: 10/1/12 - 10/7/12

Welcome to the next New Manga Shout Out. With the no-raws/scans rule on MH, you have to work a bit to find these mangas. This week features the Nazi military in Yugoslavia, a happy Portuguese girl in Japan and an all-girl's school turning co-ed. Remember, if you like any of the series, favorite them. In early 1941, Krilo is living a quiet life in his home town in Yugoslavia. He's a bit of a problem student and is influenced by the political ideas brought back by his older brother Ivan, a college student in Zagreb. Even though there are news and rumors of Nazi Germany on the move, it seems impossible that war could come to their peaceful village. In late March, the Yugoslavian government signed the Tripartite Treaty with Hitler, but the government fell to a coup d'etat only days later. In early April, Yugoslavia was invaded by Nazi Germany.

That invasion shattered Krilo's peaceful life. Countless people in the village are killed by the German invasion, and the others are rounded up. Krilo evades capture, but has no idea what to do next. He sets out for Zagreb in search of his older brother. Krilo's childhood friend, Fi, on the other hand, was among those who were rounded up. She faces a whole different kind of adversity, as she is processed with the others by the Nazi military. The invasion may be over, but the fight for Yugoslavia has just begun.

Haruki is a teenage boy who has two friends that are not very ordinary. Ayana has been transformed to be part dog, as shown by her dog ears and tail. Ayana also has enormous lactating breasts. Airi, on the other hand, is a cyborg girl, and she's got tons of mechanical gadgets. The story begins when Ayana and Airi both want Haruki to join their club, and Haruki must pick one over the other. Ayana's science club has more to do with transforming living things, whereas Airi's has to do with more mechanical science. Their attempts to persuade Haruki to their side tend to be full of nudity and sexual arousal. Haruki is going to have a bizarre school life.

Marta is a friendly, happy Portuguese girl who lives in Japan. She loves Portuguese food and often breaks into dance. The story begins when an uncertain delivery man brings a package of Portuguese ingredients to Marta's apartment, where she is hanging out in a swimsuit.

This is the official comic based on the game of the same name. An all-girl's school is preparing to consolidate with another nearby school, which will make them co-ed. Uryuu Shingo is chosen to be a male 'test student' at the girl's school before they officially merge in the following year. On Shingo's first day, he learns that many of the girls are not happy about the coming merger. Specifically, Seno Airi is staunchly opposed and refuses to welcome him to the school. Some of the other girls are friendly, but Airi has a lot of power over public opinion. The truth is, though, that Shingo has met Airi before. When she and Shingo's little sister got lost, he helped them find their way. Airi seemed to like him then, back when she didn't know he was going to be her new male classmate. Maybe he'll be able to win over Airi, as well as all his other interesting female classmates!

This is a story related to the Mashiroiro Symphony manga and visual novel game. An all-girl's school is preparing to consolidate with another nearby school, which will make them co-ed. Uryuu Shingo is chosen to be a male 'test student' at the girl's school before they officially merge in the following year. Though there was initially some opposition by the female student body, many of them have grown to like Shingo. His greatest opposition, Sena Airi, has even gotten used to him. However, the heroine of this story, Inui Sana, still hates all men in general and Shingo in specific. But could her blatant dislike be masking some other, truer feelings?

This is what tethysdust said this week:
The one that stood out this week was Ishi no Hana. I'm not normally a huge fan of war-based historical manga, but this came down far enough on the drama side to catch my interest (meaning, it had interesting characters). Also, it prompted me to learn a little more about Yugoslavia's role in WW2, and their resistance to the Nazi occupation.

My opinion:
The only one that really piqued my interest was Ishi no Hana. I'm curious as to what he's going to do...
