The Heian Age started in the year 794 when Emperor Kanmu moved the capital to the city of Heiankyo and the peaceful age lasted nearly 400 years. In the year 994, a girl named Sei Shounagon is summoned by Princess Chuumiya to serve under her as a poet. Shounagon is a language expert and works directly under the princess to entertain and teach cultural literature to her. How well Shounagon does in her poetry has a direct influence on how the princess is perceived by the rest of the royalty and thus is a very important job. Shounagon initially struggles to fit in with the group but as she begins to show how much of a poetic genius she is, Shounagon starts to get accepted by others.

This year, the student council has decided to add an exciting new contribution to the school's culture festival; an Idol performance! However, they don't actually have the money to hire any real Idols, so someone's going to have to train up an idol group from their female classmates. Hirano Harufumi is that unlucky someone. He has no interest in Idols at all, but he must put together a performance or risk expulsion from the school for his failure.

Not surprisingly, most high school girls are too embarrassed and self-conscious to dance and sing in front of their classmates in a skimpy outfit. When Harufumi tries to think about who he would like to see as an Idol, his thoughts are drawn to his cute, shy, clumsy childhood friend Aizawa Momoka. Will Harufumi be able to convince her to be an Idol before it's too late?

Coco is a young girl who, due to the recent deaths of both her parents, has inherited the aristocratic title of "marquise" and the expectations that go along with it. A new tutor named Nidell is brought in to teach Coco all the languages that nobility are required to be fluent in, and quickly finds himself facing a past he's tried to hide and becoming more like a father-figure to Coco than a tutor. Bolt and Lantern's art is both cute and detailed at the same time, and is a must read for any fan of 19th century clothing! Or cute little girls and dashing young men. And a pretty, big-boobed maid later on, as well as an arrogant little boy. Fun ensues!

The Planet Group is formed of powerful families that represent each planet in our solar system and the central Sun Family. Midori is the eldest son of the Earth Family, who is just now entering his high school life in the Planetary Academy. Other than his family name, however, Midori has little going for him. He doesn't get good grades and is shy and socially awkward.

His low self-esteem isn't helped by the general disdain his father and younger brother openly show towards him. All they want is for him to not further "dirty" the family name, by staying silent and not standing out in public. But at his new high school, Midori is surprised by the kindness of the other Planet children, particularly Yuudai Jupiter, who takes Midori under his wing on the first day. Will attending the Planetary Academy mark the beginning of a change in Midori's life, or is there no hope for him after all?

Now they've added the second Sanshirou to their family, and she is determined to be an admirable Kung Fu wife for the boy who shares her name! Though she's very friendly and unassuming, female Sanshirou is ridiculously strong and talented at martial arts. Will Sanshirou come to terms with his future wife, or will he be able to find a way out of his unintended engagement?

One day a strict conductor was having a hard time achieving the sound he wanted from the orchestra he was leading. During a over-long rehearsal, he was late coming back from a break, and his little daughter Hibiki conducted the orchestra briefly in his place. Everyone was moved by the beauty of the music she directed, including the young violinist Kuzumi Akio, who only happened to be there watching.

Nine years later, Akio is entering college as a violinist, though he feels he has lost his passion for it. Over the intervening years, he was unable to recreate the feeling that Hibiki's music stirred in him. By an amazing coincidence, it turns out that Hibiki is entering the same college, as an aspiring conductor! Will Hibiki be able to help Akio rediscover what his music is missing?

Akagi Tao is a shy elementary student with no friends. His mom works as a caddy at the Misuzu Country Club and Tao loves the peace that he experiences at the golf course. His treasure is the golf ball that the caretaker at the country club gave him. Eventually, Tao learns to golf when he receives a putter and it is immediately evident that he is a golf genius. Tao can ‘feel’ the grass on the golf course and can read the slopes extremely well. He meets Aoyama Takaya, a child golf prodigy that has been playing golf since he was 5 years old. Tao goes toe to toe with the golf genius and draws the attention of many people. Tao enters the world of golf and his entire life is about to change.

Third Girl is a story about a love triangle and talks about three different people. Yoriko is a 14 year old school girl that wants to have fun before she turns 20. She feels that after you turn 20 years old, you become too mature to enjoy the good things in life. Ryo is an electrical engineering college student and meets Yoriko but initially, is hesitant of having a relationship with her in fear that he may appear to be a pedophile. Eventually Ryo figures that as long as the relationship remains platonic, everything will be ok.

Miya is Ryo’s girlfriend and is as beautiful as she is high maintenance. She expects only the best to be provided to her, including men, food, gifts and attention. How will the dynamic relationship between these three individuals turn out?

This is what tethysdust said this week:
I liked how Sound of the Sky was written, even though it did use a fair number of cliches. Planetary deserves a mention, I think, mostly due to its being roughly science fiction and having a pretty likeable main character (he really doesn't seem so pathetic as his dad makes him out to be). It's hard to say how it's going to turn out based on the first chapter, but it seems worth a look. Also, Sanshirou no Jijou reminded me of Ranma 1/2, but without the transforming and gender-bending (though there is some gender confusion, particularly at the beginning).
Not much was interesting to me... Abarenbou Shounangon might be a nice change of pace for a historical type manga... Sound of the Sky sounds a bit interesting; it reminds me of another manga which I recommend Piano no Mori. My Idol is a definite read because it's by Kawashita Mizuki (Ichigo 100%). I'm interested in Planetary for the unappreciated son aspect and the art looks pretty nice. ^_^
