New Manga Shout Out: 5/28/12 - 6/3/12

Welcome to the next New Manga Shout Out. With the no-raws/scans rule on MH, you have to work a bit to find these mangas. This week features a man that turns people into goldfish, a doctor in jail who must save a life every night, and a yankee who fights dragons. Remember, if you like any of the series, favorite them. A terrible creature has been plaguing the community: a man with a fishbowl for a head. When he attacks someone, the goldfish leaps out of his bowl and drinks their blood. The victim is irreversibly transformed into a goldfish! This terrible crime has happened to high-schooler Kousuke's little sister. With no other option, he takes care of his goldfish-sister as best he can.

One day, he comes across a strange girl named Ringo, who wears a school swimsuit, carries an umbrella, and keeps a gun hanging around her neck. Ringo is an apprentice blood diver, and the gun is her way of shooting herself into the wounds of the fishbowl man's victims. If she can get to them in time, she can prevent them from turning into goldfish. Ringo's mentor, Ichigo, says that she's heard of a way to turn people back from goldfish into humans. Kousuke is determined to help Ringo find a way to help his sister and the loved ones of his friends at school who have met the same fishy fate!

It is still a shock to Saga Shigekata that he is standing at Ikebukuro Krea Academy, a relatively new school with a very particular curriculum. He was supposed to be attending a normal high school, but when his parents discovered the sketches he was drawing, they sent him here. This school is relatively new and is known as the otaku school where aspiring manga artists gather to learn about creating their own masterpiece. Shigekata meets a fellow first year named Miyakawa Hinari who seems to be in a cosplay costume but later finds out that not only is she Shigekata’s classmate, she is the president and founder of Krea Academy. He starts making new friends that inspire him to produce artwork with a lot of passion.

Completely by accident, he has a fateful encounter with the pilot of the military robot, a partially-unclothed, relatively small-breasted, cute teenage girl who calls herself Rabian Rose! Ryotarou may meet her again in Tokyo, especially since he actually has a family connection to the production of these humanoid robots; his father worked with them. His future in Tokyo is bound to be full of more mechas and girls than he can handle!

Shun Yanahara is a pretty normal first-year high school boy. His grades are not terrific, he's not very popular with girls, and he plays soccer with his school's club. He's often felt like someone was watching him, and, strangely enough, he's right. On a far away Earth-like planet known as O-pa, there is a civilization made entirely of women. One of them, a scientist named Lib Myura, has fallen in love with Shun. She and her two colleagues have created an illegal male human robot, called a synchroid, which they intend to fill with Shun's consciousness.

However, things never go exactly as planned. They successfully make contact with Shun, but it isn't just his mind that the synchroid shares. Any injury the synchroid sustains is inflicted on Shun, back on Earth. What's worse, when Shun is not actively inhabiting the synchroid, it reverts to a crazy sex-crazed pervert. Things only get more complicated when Myura's illegal research is uncovered! Now the three scientists and the sometimes-crazy synchroid are on the run, and Myura knows that if the synchroid is destroyed, she'll be guilty of getting the man she loves killed!

The strongest gang in the Kanto region is the Satans, by far, who have taken all the other gangs in the region under their command. The reason for their dominance is none other than their leader Yamaguchi Nitaka who is bar none the strongest fighter. With Nitaka taking charge, they begin their campaign on the Kansai region and all is going well until a flash of light takes Nitaka and his friend Mizuno Tsukasa to another world.

When the pair come to, they are greeted by a princess who tells them that they are in a world called Olicia. In this land, magic, demons and mythical creatures are not just fantasy or a videogame but absolutely real. The princess’s kingdom has been under siege by the Demon Empire and as a last resort, she attempted to summon Satan himself to defend her people. Although she mistakenly brought Nitaka over instead of the lord of the underworld, Nitaka’s strength knows no bounds and fights equally as well against dragons and wizards.

This is what tethysdust said this week:
Chimoguri Ringo to Kingyobachi Otoko was by far the most interesting this week. It was so strange that it was surreal, and I really enjoyed seeing something that didn't seem to follow a usual formulaic plot. I gave it a 'mature' tag mostly because there's an awful lot of blood and neck-wounds. Datsugoku Doctor Inochiya Enma was also pretty neat, though the 'highly skilled, illegal surgeon' thing has been done before.
Here's what vyc had to say:
Yankee Quest - favorite for me this week. Strongest street brawler/gang member in Japan fights against things you might see in video games or fantasy novels like dragons, undead, demons, etc. Very straight forward reading and everyone will be able to enjoy this series.
My opinion:
Chimoguri Ringo to Kingyobachi Otoko certainly seems unique, a bit weird and not of the usual manga fare. The concept of a goldfish bowl-headed being turninig people into goldfish is a bit absurd... Yankee Quest also seems a bit interesting. I don't think I've ever seen a delinquent in a fantasy setting and he's able to take on a dragon... At least that seems unique, although I don't know how interesting it'll be to see him fighting various beasts...
