Renjouji Kiriya holds the coveted position of the number 1 ranked host at a high-class host club "Chateau du Amour" in Tokyo. The Chateau du Amour specializes in providing the company of beautiful, cultured men to female customers. Few people know that the popular Kiriya is actually Yamada Kotarou, a boy from Nagasaki who came to Tokyo to find a way to repay his parent's debt.

Some of the other hosts, jealous of his position, are determined to get past his perfect facade to discredit him. Kiriya will have a hard time stopping them, especially after a former customer dumps an adorable 5-year-old girl on him, claiming he is the father. The story, which takes place in the fictional medieval empire of Saiunkoku, follows the adventures of Shuurei Kou, a descendant of a noble family that has fallen on hard times. Her father serves as librarian in the Imperial palace, a post which offers prestige and respect but little compensation. Shuurei teaches in the temple school and works odd jobs to make ends meet, but her dream is to pass the imperial examinations and take a post in government, a path forbidden to women. Shuurei's plans come to an abrupt halt when the Emperor's Grand Advisor makes a startling offer: join the imperial household for six months as the young Emperor's consort, and teach the Emperor to be a responsible ruler. If she succeeds, the financial reward will be great. The story details Shuurei's growing relationships with the Emperor and other members of the court, the intrigues that surround imperial politics, and Shuurei's commitment to better herself and her country.

At a highschool in the northern town of Hirosaki, there are two star teenagers. One is Sakabe, who is an excellent soccer player and plans to go pro in Tokyo after graduation. The other is Yukari, a beautiful and rich girl who is being recruited as a model. Yukari has a crush on Sakabe, but to her annoyance, she has an unknowing rival: Hino Himawari.

Himawari isn't rich; in fact, her mother works at Yukari's family's company. Himawari has no confidence in her appearance, since she thinks she's too tall for a woman. Unintentionally, Himawari has stolen from Yukari both the attention of Sakabe and of model scouts for a major Tokyo magazine publishing company. Now she also has the possibility of becoming a model with the same publishing company as Yukari. What will the future hold for these three friends as they chase their dreams?

Takashi Seruma was a college student in the US when he was pressured to become a bank robber for the mafia. After internal betrayal unraveled his bank robbing group's scheme, Takashi found himself to be the last person standing. He fled to a hotel in Mexico, hid the cash, and tried to find a way to convince the mafia he's not the traitor before they have him killed. Ena Tairagi is a young Japanese runaway, framed for the murder of a LAPD officer, who has fled down to that same hotel in Mexico. Toshio Horita is an ex-cop who's been asked by his contact in the DEA to hunt down Ena. Together, they will try to survive the hail of bullets and make sense of the situation into which they have been thrown.

This is what tethysdust said this week:
My favorite of this bunch was probably Goshimei Desu/Apple (Apple is an extra story in the volume). I'm not really sure I buy the author's insistence that she was writing for boys, since it was sort of like a chick flick, but the stories were pretty entertaining! Chikara no Arika also stood out to me, though it was a bit on the emo side. I kind of wish it were not complete, because there were a fair number of things that I felt were not explained at the end. Soleil seemed like it could be interesting, but it feels extremely slow paced. Ore no imouto wa konna ni kawaii wake ga nai was fairly strange, but seemed to me like it could be really funny if they don't dive off the fan service deep end later on.
Only two series really interested me. Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai seems kind of interesting seems it focuses on a girl liking ero-games, although if it's too fanservice-y, then I'd probably get bored with it... The other one that seems kind of interesting is SOLIEL, mainly due to the fact that it's from the mangaka duo that did Jouou. If you want more of the newly made anime Baka to Test, then you should check out the new 4koma (along with the regular manga series) which is currently being scanlated.
