New Manga Shout Out: 6/18/12 - 6/24/12

Welcome to the next New Manga Shout Out. With the no-raws/scans rule on MH, you have to work a bit to find these mangas. This week features a girl who can mimic any move she sees, a gaming magazine club and a soba maker turned judo wrestler. Remember, if you like any of the series, favorite them. Kimiko, a young city-girl wife of a company man, Susumu, was surprised when her husband declared that he wanted to quit his job. He was from a farming family, and he wanted to return to the country and his family's trade. Kimiko and Susumu moved back to his hometown, and he began a life that was much more fulfilling for him. Kimiko began working as a teacher at a local elementary school. She's going to have a hard time becoming accustomed to the new community in which she now lives, but they have each other, though, and they can still build a happy, loving life together!

Masashi was a member of the Japanese mob working in Thailand when he met Jin. Jin was the girlfriend/property of a powerful mafia lord named Number 8 and was off limits for anyone but him. No one, not even other mafia bosses, dared to layi a hand on Jin for fear of Number 8’s wrath. Masashi and Jin fall in love but because of the danger it would put on them, Masashi goes back to Japan while Jin run and hides from Number 8.

Several years later, Jin is living with Zen, her child with Masashi, and remains in hiding. Zen has development issues and cannot communicate nearly as well as someone her age should. However, the same abnormality that hinders her also allows her to instantly mimic movements and she's able to copy martial arts techniques of such greats as Bruce Lee by simply watching a video. When Jin is diagnosed with Leukemia, Zen and Mun, her childhood friend and caretaker, try to raise money for the expensive treatment. They find Jin’s notebook that lists all the money that people owe her and start collecting them without Jin’s knowledge. Little do they know that the list is from when she still worked under Number 8 and when they start going around town, it raises red flags and the dark past comes back to haunt them.

This is a story of a group of college-age people who struggle with gender and sexual identity. Yuki (nicknamed Yoshiki) is a girl, but she is terrible at 'being feminine.' She mostly dresses like a boy and is often mistaken as one. However, she has to wear a skirt and imagine being dominated by a guy in order to masturbate. Nagao Mikako seems young and innocent, and she uses that apparent innocence to sell her body as a fake 15-year-old. She knows her youthfulness can't last forever, but she enjoys tricking the men. Her friends have no idea of her sexual habits and believe her to be sweet and sheltered. Aiba Kaito is a pretty good-looking guy, but he wants to be Nagao Mikako. He often dresses as a girl, picking out clothes that mimic Mikako's style. Though he's into cross-dressing, he is still attracted to women. Will these young adults and their friends be able to handle their 'guilty secrets' and muddle their way through this confusing period of their lives?

Hinomoto Hajime is known as Sobakkasu because of her freckles, being the daughter of a soba chef and is considered an ugly duckling when compared to her beautiful sister. She has spent the last 10 years of her life training under her father to make soba and eventually take over the restaurant. But at the beginning of her high school life, she goes through a rough series of events and gets to a very low point in her life. She is saved by Shigeyoshi Minako who Hajime instantly has admiration for because of her beautiful appearance and strong personality.

Hajime learns that Shigeyoshi is actually the Judo team captain at her high school and is one of the strongest in the country. Hajime convinces her best friend Toshiko to join the team with her and the pair along with the other first years begin the cruel training regiment the team requires. It is clear that Hajime has no athletic talent and is always falling behind. But her determination and 10 years of pounding and kneading soba has given Hajime an unique advantage that no one, not even the talented Shigeyoshi, can match.

Amou Academy is an enormous educational establishment that boasts of 200,000 students and a gigantic campus that is actually its own city. Sakai Anzu is one of two members of the Detective agency operating on campus and is a normal high school girl. On the other hand, the other member, Yuri, is something out of this world. Yuri normally looks like a young girl but she is able to use sorcery to transform herself into a more mature appearance where she gains the ability to solve mysteries and crimes. There is one drawback however and it is that in that state, Yuri needs sexual energy to use her deducing skills and Anzu is there to give into her erotic needs.

I don't really have much to say about this week's. Himegoto was the most interesting, but it has a lot of sexual content (That can be a pro or a con depending on your point of view). Terao was cute, but very silly.
Here's what vyc had to say:
Chocolate Fighter - Incredibly cool storyline and concept. Little bit of adult scenario but well done in terms of drawing, characters, tempo of storyline and general interestingness.

Sobakkasu - Really great series and it was so interesting to me that I actually read the entire series from beginning to end. I really hope someone translates the entire thing so that other people can read it.

Yuri Tantei - storyline wise, not my favorite genre but I wanted to mention that the artwork is very good.
Now for Midori-Mori's take on his manga:
This week's series were quite interesting. If you want a 'small' twist on your usual idea of a magic-using girl, Mahou-Pantsu-Ore is a good choice. Again, for the more mature eyes, Lemon would be a nice read. Enjoy.

My opinion:
Chocolate Fighter actually sounds interesting, although I don't know how much storyline can progress and how satisfying storyline there can be if it's only one volume long. Himegoto really reminds me of Hourou Musuko so I'd think it would be a good read for those interested in that series. Hopefully someone will pick this series up.
