A clan of men and women with occult capabilities, who refer to themselves as "Kureha", were in the service of the most powerful people and had occupied themselves, since antiquity, with the most difficult missions possible. They have now almost completely died out.

In modern day Japan, Amanagi Shizuka, whose mother betrayed Kureha and was executed, has started her fight with the clan. She is determined to destroy Kureha, not only for revenge for the death of her mother, but also to fulfill her mother's plans. The current Kureha leader, Houhashi Rin, was a close friend of Shizuka's when they were children. Now she must find a way to face her old friend, who has become her new enemy.

The time is Sengoku in feudal Japan, in the land of Tosa. The Chousokabe family lives in Castle Okou with Kunichika as the head of the clan. He plans on invading neighboring states to control more land and bring prosperity to the people. However, the son, Motochika, disagrees with his father’s course of action and refuses to take part in the warfare. The angered Kunichika throws his son into a river and disowns him. Motochika struggles to stay afloat and eventually loses consciousness but washes up on land alive.

Confused as to why he washed up on the beach and there is no Castle Okou in sight, he asks the people and learns he is hundreds of years in the future and the Chousokabe family has not been heard of in years. Still not wanting to believe the reality of the situation, he wanders the land trying to make sense of the matter. Through a turn of events, he meets Sakamoto Ryouma, the famous revolutionist of the 1860’s. Will Motochika help Ryouma overthrow the feudal empire, the same government he grew up in? What destiny holds for these two characters from different centuries that never even should have met in the first place?

Chokotto Hime is a 4 panel style manga (4koma) about a kitten and the little daily adventures she has in her life. The reader sees the animals in the perspective of both humans and animals. Humans perceive animals as they are, kittens and puppies, but from the perspective of the animals, they see each other as human kids. A boy finds a kitten in the streets and decides to take it home to his family to adopt it. He names her Hime and officially becomes part of the Watanabe family. The manga goes through all the new things in Hime’s life from the toys in the house to playing outside to making new friends. Chokotto Hime is a very cute and heart warming manga. A must read for any animal lover or anyone who loves their pets.

Date Bashira is a series of stories about the Sengoku era in Japan. However, unlike most textbooks and historical mangas, Date Bashira does not focus on the Shogun or famous figures in history. Instead, it brings to light the untold stories of the things surrounding these famous figures. For example, one story tells about the role of how beautiful young men were always accompanying the shoguns into battle. As women were not allowed into a battle zone, the warlords would use these teenage boys to satisfy their sexual urges.

A different chapter tells the history of the wives of the Shoguns and focuses on the female role in the Sengoku era. As young women were forced into arranged marriages, usually as peace offerings or spies, their husbands usually die in battle at a very early age, as it was the era of war. Date Bashira discusses the idea of remarriage for these women and if they were really in love or were playing the role of a wife.

Date Bashira takes a different perspective at one of Japan’s most talked about era and even though it is informative, you never get the feeling of a lecture. The beautiful artwork, splash of comedy and the untold, yet interesting historical information really keeps the reader glued onto the pages.

The year is 1570 in Japan and the land is ruled by none other than Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Hideyoshi is recruiting the best and brightest minds to work for him and one of them is Ishida Mitsunari. Mitsunari, just a child at this point, is short in stature and has hardly any combat ability, but where he lacks in physical skills, he makes up greatly in his mind. Called one of the best tacticians of his time, Mitsunari shows great potential even at a young age. He is accompanied by his friend Ootani Yoshitsugu, a great swordsman, in a journey to prove his worth to his lord.

Both characters, Mitsunari and Yoshitsugu, have clashing personalities but their ability to work together and compensate each others weaknesses makes them a great pair. Kirinji Amou Gin is a great read and really has potential to be an amazing series.

This manga takes place in a school where the students are based on famous shoguns in Japanese history. Sengoku Gakuen was once like a normal school but Oda Nobunaga, the student president overthrew the teachers and practically made them powerless. He built a school of the students, for the students and by the students. Nobunaga eventually graduated and left Hideyoshi in charge as the student president. However, Hideyoshi soon drops out of school to help Nobunaga rule Japan as he ruled Sengoku Gakuen.

The story picks up here as there is a battle between Ishida Mitsunari, an uptight and conservative, yet hardworking boy, and Tokugawa Ieyasu, the temporary school president who has lots of followers, fighting for the school president seat. We also see other famous figures as fellow students such as Ootani Yoshitsugu who is loyally following Mitsunari and Oichi, Nobunaga’s younger sister. Who will win the student body president position and take command of the school?

Chisato’s classmate, Kudou Daisuke is a pervert and tries hard to make her take off her clothes to reveal her underwear. How will Chisato juggle between being a normal school girl, saving the world using her new powers, thwarting Umeko’s plans AND fighting off Daisuke’s perverted motives?

The club’s purpose is to visit abandoned buildings, rooms or stations and see the beauty of the place that has been forgotten but which is full of history, places that are worn out by time, forgotten by people but filled with hints into the past.

This is what tethysdust said this week:
Of the ones I read, Arahabaki was probably the most interesting, plot-wise. Also, strangely, there was another curling manga, Sweep. It was funny, though the plot was a bit improbable! (Orange Delivery was the last one on this sport, not long ago). Also, there are two manga that are about the relationship between the historical figure Sanada Yukimura and a ninja called Sarutobi Sasuke (apparently the name is john-doe-ninja in Japan), Kageroi and Warabe no Kusa . However, these manga differ in the type of plot, characterization of those two people and their relationship, and art style.
Date Bashira looks interesting since it describes the regular people in the Sengoka era as opposed to the same old famous characters. I like the idea behind Kirinji with a focus on winning by using a person's mind versus through some glorious fight scene. Kokou no Hito reminds me a bit of last week's Gaku manga, another mountain climbing manga, but since this has one chapter scanlated, I'll be checking this out. Maru Maru Se Yo! Sengoku Gakuen Seitokai definitely looks interesting and reminds me a bit of SigIkki's Afterschool Charisma with it's use of famous people in history, although everything else is different. Straight No Chaser reminds me a little of Nodame with an eccentric character learning a musical instrument. I'd definitely want to check this out.
